Totally up to them, but personally if they cut out the romances, friendships, the NPC dialog and the other unique character interactions they have been doing, I won't have a reason to pick them over any other game developer.
The reason I've always picked their games up first, pre-ordering and even buying them for different platforms, is exactly that they combine story, relationships and adventure and a great heroic ending along with other ending choices (though that has slid a bit and I'm waiting to see what happens with ME3).
Get rid of the thing that makes them unique and they are just one developer in a big ocean of developers. IMO

Yes- we really, really do. Not because they're necessary to enjoy a game, but because BioWare and especially the DA writers do them so well- not just the romance story lines but character relationships in general. It would be a shame if they gave it up for whatever reason.
