It is 100% fact to say bioware & blizzard make the best rpgs. The question is, who is better at it

Obviously this is subjective, but I have a feeling bioware will be #1.  lets see,

blizzard has made-

1.  diablo 1-  First rpg in history to have "hell" in it.
2.  diablo 2 lod- Possibly the most famous rpg online.  Battle.net can be overrun with bots and hackers, but doing baal runs was still fun as hell.  I looted like godly gear while never even attacking any monsters.

bioware has made-

1.  baulder's gate-  If dragon age origins is great and is the spiritual successor to baulder's gate, then this game is obviously great.  I never played.  I'm assuming its a dungeon crawler and adventure game like oscarina of time.

2.  baulder's gate 2- never played it either, but people claim it brought them "Into" the rpg genre.  i saw some footage of this game on g4tv's xplay and although it looked outdated, it looked great.  Said to have like 400 hours of gameplay in just one playthrough.

3.  neverwinter knights- I don't know anything about this either but it looks like baulder's gate but with better graphics.

4.  Star wars: knights of the old republic- I do have this game and the story and dialogue options were awesome.  I never seen such a great twist in a video game.  Very unexpected.  It is the only star wars game that was actually good.

5.  Star wars: knights of the old republic 2- I never played this but I heard the graphics and spell effects were a lot better than the first one, but the story wasn't quite as good.

mass effect- Awesome graphics, story, characters, dialogue options.  It felt like a movie.  Definitely one of the best rpg's in the last couple years.

Honestly, Bioware is king of the rpg genre.  All these games are so diverse and there is so much to do in them.  Diablo 1 and diablo 2 lod were great, but there wasn't a lot of difference between the two games.

I wouldn't consider Diablo 1 & 2 TRUE Rpg's. They were more action oriented and the story was good but not prevalent and continually changing...

Bioware make better hard core Role-playing based RPGs. Blizzard create great action RPG & realtime stratergy games.

To me the two types of game are very different though I enjoy both, so comparing Blizzard & Bioware is like comparing Apples & Oranges.

I see your blizzard and raise you an obsidian (at least makes decent sequels of bioware games)

And if were back in those days (the days of diablo) I'll throw in troika too.

My two favorite game developers.

If the category is RPG, then you kinda have to say Bioware. You can call Diablo a RPG, but in reality it was the first action rpg/action adventure game and made big the item grind that became the foundation all MMOs. Therefore, if you're comparing just RPGs, you have a long list of them for Bioware and MAYBE 2 for Blizzard.

On the other hand, Blizzard has made (imo) the best RTS ever (starcraft), the best (at least most successful) MMO ever (wow), and the best hero-based RTS in Warcraft 3. On top of that, Diablo is one of the top selling games of all time. There is no doubt that Blizzard has sold more games than Bioware overall, but does this make them better? Dunno.

Basically, you're asking a loaded question since we know the answer and there is no real comparison. Which company is more SUCCESSFUL? Probably Blizzard. Which company is BETTER? Well that takes a lot more thought.

Well.. seeing as we're on the BioWare forums I think BioWare takes this one here. Especially since Blizzard has never made a true RPG.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Diablo series, but it's just not the same thing. And even so, Blizzard is more well known for its RTS series (and that WoW cash cow more recently I suppose).

And they create the best open ended sandbox RPGs, but they aren't as good at epic plot lines and characters as Bioware.

Again I don't think they produce games that are directly comparable to Biowares RPGs.

I also liked Oblivion and the other Elderscroll games though.

It's awesome that you can see it's a flamechamp thread just by reading the title.

Bioware has and is the best rpg maker these days, atleast i think so. I love pretty much every rpg they release and i play them all way too much, over the past few years i really didn't know too much about bioware.

I didn't know too much mostly because i didn't care about who developed games back then, but when i started to get older and noticed who developed the games i loved i found it was bioware.

What, no love for Square-Enix? Sure that's a completely different type of RPG game, but they still make awesome RPG games! Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest? Come on!

Not Dragon Age: Origins related.

End of line.
