Though I enjoyed DA2 (as sloppy as it was, it still had some decent writing and was entertaining at times), I found myself yearning for the Dragon Age that once was - a franchise of RPG games offering epic adventures in a far away imanginary land known as Thedas.

I had finished DAO a while back, so I wasn't ready to get back into it again.

Instead, I decided to replay Awakening again, since it had been a while since (a year) since I have played the game.

Though Awakening is a much shorter game than DA2, it had way less fetch quests. Every quest was directly related to the main storyline in some way or another. The environments were varied and interesting to explore. Even the Baroness was a far more sinister enemy than Meredith ever was.

Though I like the companions in DA2 a little more, Awakening didn't have a bad cast either. We had Oghren (the best Dragon Age companion by far), Sigrun, Velanna, Anders (before he became an angry man with a mission in DA2), and a few others whose names I have forgotten.

I wouldn't mind if BioWare released another expansion pack like this for DAO. I will gladly pay $40 for it. I don't care how short a game is - quality trumps quantity all the time.

Couldn't disagree more. The way some feel about DA2, I feel about Awakening. I detest it. It's bugged, choppy and a chore to play. (To me, mind you) I hate Velanna, Awakening Oghren makes me gnash my teeth, Sigrun was awesome but the rest was meh...I wanted to see more of The Architect. More personal drama, I never felt any attachment to anybody in Awakening. (As opposed to DAO and DAII) Less glitches. Better cameos. I hate the Black Marsh, the Wending Wood bores me to tears and I never really got attached to Amaranthine or the Vigil. Only things I do love: Loghain's cameo, Wade, Herren, Sigrun and Nathaniel.

Combat is better in DA2.

Everything else is worse.

Awakening was the inverse: terrible combat (It was so ****ing easy it wasn't even funny) but it was much more interesting.

I still don't understand the Oghren love though. And I tried! I spent half a playthrough in Origins taking him along with me constantly, chatting with him, then taking him in awakening. I don't understand the appeal, he's such an infuriating character with no redeeming value.

Yea it is, better story and lead. For whaever reason both Mike and David wanted to do away with anything that deals with DAO and so you have DA2 and at best a game that makes little to no sense...has over reused maps and dungeons..that you go over and over again..with bland character base..quest are done so fast and no meat to them and you can blow up all your targets....whats not to like? BLAH. So color me bad......don't care this is a game that left the story "if there was one" up in the air and left quest and combat far cut to the bone....it's a 3 to 4 DLC at best. This is what DA3 will be too so I'am not going to go on blind faith with BioWare.......ever again, and you fanboys that don't like what I say.....bugger off...don't care.

Yep Awakening was far better than DA2. Never had any bugs with it.

Architect was win
Sigrun was win
Nathaniel was cool
Anders was hilarious
Justice was cool (but got him too late to really care)
Oghren was meh

Story overall was really great imo. Heaps of stuff they could have done with it in a true sequel, not the steaming pile we got that was DA2.

Hahaha wow that really puts the difference into clear perspective. Wow...just wow. How could anyone say DA2's graphics were better!?

Am I the only one getting sick of seeing nothing but threads bashing DA2? The opinions themselves don't bother me; but I'm tired of reading page after page of it being inferior to DAO or whatever is getting a bit cliche. We get it that ou don't like the game. Go to the origins forums or the Mass Effect forums, or find another company to worship. Your opinions have been noted -- several thousand times.

Kiddin' right? He's in the bottom 3 of DA series companions. heck, he's bottom 5 of BIO's worst npcs of all time. If he wasn't a dwarf 9that I'm biased in favor of), I'd hate him even more!!!

TBH - we want to get our $59.99 worth of entertainment somehow...  Let's face the reality of ~200+ hrs of gameplay on Origins vs. the 40ish I've gotten out of DA2.  I suppose I have at least another 160 hours worth of forum time to exercise before I've gotten my money's worth.

You're not the only one. Those threads keep being bumped/reposted ad nauseam. I think a sticky criticism thread would be much better than spamming the entire board. But then, the boards I mod have rather strict rules and such spamming (We use stickies) would be purged. It just clutters up the board completely. Just IMO of course.

King. I'm not trying to fool anyone; I just have an unhealthy obsession with Joan of Arc, and this became my favorite character as a result.

Funniest part: I was going to use images from BioWare's main site so as not to be accused of picking biased screenshots, but DA2's environment page only contains concept art, lol.

When I hate a game, I rate & review it, put it away and move on to the next one or do something else I enjoy.

Under what rules of enjoying games is there a stipulation that for a game to be enjoyed, it must be an epic adventure? Why can't a game be good without being a schlepic epic? Epics can be just as dull and boring as non-epics. Non-epics can be just as fun and entertaining as epics.

It is an opinion I am sure. He is one of the worst npc in your opinion, not all agree.

I also think awakening was better than DA2. Awakening wasn't excellent game by any means, but it actually had a real plot and everything. And it wasn't dumbed down action rpg either.

What? I didn't think DA2 was a bad game, just that whatever BioWare made before it was superior in my opinion.

I believe the forumite is refering to multiple playthroughs. And one DAO playthrough can take up to 80 hours, I can vouch.
