Under what rules of enjoying games is there a stipulation that for a game to be enjoyed, it must be an epic adventure? Why can't a game be good without being a schlepic epic? Epics can be just as dull and boring as non-epics. Non-epics can be just as fun and entertaining as epics.

DA2 tried not to be an epic.

And it didn't quite succeed. Epic narratives are BioWare's forte, so they should stick to those instead.

Am I the only one getting sick of seeing nothing but threads bashing DA2? I'm all for having and expressing opinions, but I reading page after page of it being inferior to DAO or whatever is getting a bit cliche. We get it that ou don't like the game. Go to the origins forums or the Mass Effect forums, or find another company to worship. Your opinions have been noted -- several thousand times.

TBH - we want to get our $59.99 worth of entertainment somehow...  Let's face the reality of ~200+ hrs of gameplay on Origins vs. the 40ish I've gotten out of DA2.  I suppose I have at least another 160 hours worth of forum time to exercise before I've gotten my money's worth.

Like it's the first time you've been disappointed in something you bought. E-bay it or shelve it. Every time you buy a game there's a 50/50 chance you'll regret it; get used to disappointment.

I love the story and cast of Awakening. The primary story arc had more twists and intrigue than DAO and the cast, while not as substantial as DAO companions, were still great!

Agreed; I miss Sigrun.

SOMEONE ALERT THE MEDIA!!!! WE'VE GOT A BREAKTHROUGH!!!!

It's kind of sad how many people on the forums associate their opinion with fact, i.e. Oghren blows, Anders is dumb, DA ][ is horse dung.

I miss her too, I wish we'd seen her in DA2 not Anders. Hate what Bioware did to Anders in DA2, at least he was somewhat funny in awakenings.

Kiddin' right? He's in the bottom 3 of DA series companions. heck, he's bottom 5 of BIO's worst npcs of all time. If he wasn't a dwarf 9that I'm biased in favor of), I'd hate him even more!!!

It is an opinion I am sure. He is one of the worst npc in your opinion, not all agree.

I also think awakening was better than DA2. Awakening wasn't excellent game by any means, but it actually had a real plot and everything. And it wasn't dumbed down action rpg either.

The whole dumbed down idea is SO cute though. It's been said about NWN. About DAO. About ME2. Actually, compared to Planescape Torment, all Bioware games are dumbed down action/fluff "RPGS" if you want to go that way. And if I were to go back even further to the M&M Series (Totally different animal of an RPG series....) Bioware never made so called RPGs to begin with. Definitions of RPGs vary so bloody much. DAII certainly was an RPG. BG was a different kind of RPG. M&M IV was an RPG too, though it had nothing in common with DAO or BG. And *gasp* I love them all. :P

Who's "we"?

You really want to complain for 160 hours? Because of a GAME?

Wow....

When I hate a game, I rate & review it, put it away and move on to the next one or do something else I enjoy.

Crazy, right?

It was deliberate hyperbole.  I have no intention of spending 160 hrs here griping :)

Volourn wrote...

WUT? More like 50-60 hours tops. And, DA2 was 50-60 hours tops.

Indeed, multiple playthroughs.

Oh, please. PSt didn't have non combat skills, and it heavily ripped off FF.

Don't get me wrong as PST was a very good game with great wiritng, story, and characters. But, it was also hevaily dumbed down in its own ways. Just comapre its combat to the other IE games.

"Indeed, multiple playthroughs."

meaningless comparison  since that all depends on the individual. I didn't quite finish DA1 twice 9came close), and I'll be lucky to finish DA2 twice as well because I feel all games - even ones with good C7C - are basically the same game.

In DA1, you still have to go to orzammer no matter what

In DA2, yous till have to deal with the arishok

Sure, both those things gvie you different ways tod eal with them but it's same 'ol same 'ol anyways.

Eh, too much of an Alistair replacement in my opinion. And his DA2 unraveling is hinted at in Awakening. (As I am replaying Awakening with my Amell, I am astounded by how much it's actually hinted at, to be honest.)

Hey you can read this from steam. Origins is under Rpg. DA2 is under action rpg. So doesn't that mean that bioware thinks DA2 is an action rpg.

But okay let's say dumbed down compared to origins then.

Wow, I had no idea folks would actually believe that someone would spend 160 hrs here complaining...

That being said, e-bay no workie for PC games that turn into a coaster after registration.

Furthermore, part of the problem is that PC games are getting *worse* and *worse*...  The hit rate is dropping significantly.  But then again, such is life..

Wow, that is actually a fun fact to know and tell...  I did not know that Steam went so far as to classify DA2 as an action RPG rather than just a RPG.

Bioware can think the sky is green, for all I care. They also thought the DR and The Fade were a good idea. And boy, do I disagree with them there!:D

I agree with your first statement but not the second. DA2 did succeed, and this game showed that Bioware is not bound by epics narratives. This game was a refreshing change from their norm. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the epicness of DA:O and both ME games, but I also enjoyed the more morally ambigous story telling and feel of DA2 - there's no obvious great evil but the game replaces that with a mentally stimulating choice of either supporting one group or another. Both groups have their bad apples, admirable characters one would like to emulate, and ordinary people who are neither good nor bad.

classiification means nothing. i've seen DA2 labeled RPG, I've seen DA1 labeled and WIN an award for 'adventure game'. FO:LV was nominated for shooter even though it's more in line with ana ction rpg... labels are nonsense. i've seen people label the Bgs, PST, the earlier FOs as all sorts of silly things.

P.S. DA2 does have an 'epic story'. Your characters starts from nothing and at the end of the game he is the 'champion' .It's a 7 year (10) epic. That's the very defintion of epic.

Not for me.
Awakening was very very dull and apart from Anders,Sigurn and Oghren I didn't like anybody else imo
And Awakening is still full of bugs which will never be fixed (Except for modders but I play on a console)

I actually enjoyed the fade.  I realize that there are even mods to prevent the player from enduring the fade if they so choose, but I enjoyed it...  I actually enjoyed the deep roads too, excepting the fact that you tend to wind up in loot backhauls to Ruck about 75% of the way through the trenches.

To be fair I don't think it was really Anders in DA2, nor Justice, it was Vengence (it all was, there was no Anders in DA2, he ended we he accepted Justice into himself and they corrupted each other).  He imo was a different kind of abomination, but an abomination all the same

I think the point was that BW/EA probably had some input into how Steam labeled the game.

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed those aspects. I know many do. I simply hate those padding dungeons. As it is, most of my DAO playthroughs fizzle out once Ostagar begins these days. Don't hit me, it's just how I feel. And one day I'll feel this way about DA2 as well. But by then I'll have other games to enjoy. ME3. DA expansions and DA3. Or something else.
