Much prefer antagonists like Irenicus & Loghain.

The Mother in Awakening was meh.

The Archdemon was as boring as it can get.

Meredith was bloody awesome until she went from icy zealot who sometimes shows HINTS of regret (Her "If you cannot show me another way, do NOT brand me a tyrant!" gave me cold shivers, fantastic line) to completely lyrium addled monster way TOO fast. If they had taken the time to show her corruption evolve more (It IS hinted at, I.E. by Cullen) , it would have been amazing. (Ah, Act IV...where are you, when we need you?)

You thought THAT was sudden. Try siding with the mages. Orsino goes from a reasonable fellow, to bat-sh*t insane in about 5 seconds. Sure he knew about the White Lily killer, but he didn't condone his experiments. So why did he turn into a Harvester?!?!!?!

Really? No one is going to say it?

Fine. I want the Maker as the villain. That bastard needs to pay.

There are about 10,000 existing JRPGs where you kill God. Let's be more original.

Clearly you were taking me seriously.

No I just like pointing out that JRPGs have you kill God.

Let's play Shin Megami Age!

That reminds me, are Persona 3 and 4 any good? I've only played the Digital Devil Saga games.

I don't buy that. If it was sudden it was because they didn't do enough to overtly establish his questionable character, but his actions regarding the Lily Killer don't add up IMO for him to be a reasonable fellow.

If you like JRPGs yeah, they are pretty good, not as grim dark as the main series and more focused on talking to people (some conversations are really weird tough). And of course, lots of christianity/religion bashing.

Back on topic, I like villains who actually have a reason to become villains, or whose "villainess" aren't very obvious at first. IMO Dragon Age characters are really good ones (though I have only played Origins and 2, no DLC's or expansions), because, depending on the perspective you see them, they are not really bad at all, or, are worse villains than the "official" ones, such as Loghain, Bhelen/Harrowmont, Anders, Meridith/Orsino or even Merril!
I did find disappointing, as others mentioned, that Orsino crazyness only makes sense if you help the templars.

Maybe it's just me, but I think having Hawke (Yes, the one you spent DA2 playing as) as a villain would actually be a pretty decent idea.

It's been done with diablo II(kinda), I know, but we have all the elements here to set up a face-heel turn:

[Pointless spoilers tag]
1) Regardless of which side you chose at the end, Hawke ends up in a position to be betrayed/has been betrayed by those you protected in the past, setting up a betrayal backpast.

2) People will probably view the champion as the cause of this whole war (unless they don't know the truth), despite Hawke's good intentions. This could be used as a device to jade good Hawkes somewhat, or in the case of 'evil' Hawkes, completely validate their world view, leading them onto the path of evil.

3a)Sarcastic Hawke ragging on about the numerous faults in Ferelden/Kirkwall/Orlais(?) would be interesting, possibly setting up the 'Joker' style villain mentioned in the earlier pages of this thread. Also, Trollface Hawke would be epic.

3b)'Evil'(mostly red choices) Hawke would be the logical conclusion of that playstyle, so it makes sense.

3c)Blue (good) Hawke could provide us with a villain who could be sympathized with, especially for those who played as him, thus providing adding more emotion to the final battle, if done right.

4)HAWKE'S PARENTS ARE DEEEAAAD

5)People who disliked DA2 get a small form of vengance against the game, even though in reality they cannot do anything.

6)The look on the Seeker's face would be priceless.

We won't see Hawke again. Big heroes rising and then suddenly dissappearing is part of the plot and the world.

Like the Warden, it's best to just think of them being dead. Bioware would never reveal them as such, of course, but it amounts to the same thing - they won't be doing anything else from here on out.
