I had 3 playthroughs and only caught it on the 3rd one.
During act 2 i had the banter in each playthrough between varric and isabela about the bad poet trying to pick up isabela.
In the third playthrough i had isabela out of the party and was romancing merril. i went to the hanged man for i think it was the meet donnic quest and talked to varric in his room. i started to hear isabela talking to someone so went back towards the bar and found 'bad poet' next to isabela and she was bantering with him. he was trying to pick her up and she was dodging him. i clicked on isabela and it started a conversation where i rescue her from having to talk to him. she then said that shes noticed ive been spending alot of time with merril and she thinks merril likes me.
i chose to say that im in love with merril to which she replied that im glad we found each other and to be good to merril, because if i hurt her she will cut off my balls.
I thought it was a good conversation that added more depth to isabela. and honestly i still found friendship isabela to be more character improving and developing and more in depth than merril's romance was.
