I just dueled him in a 20 minute game of cat and mouse as an archer. (playing on Normal)

How long did it take to wittle him down for you?

Sword & Shield must take FOREVER. (if player DPS is like Aveline's) I think a CC/DPS specced mage would do fine assuming spells work on him. Pinning shot worked fairly well ( as well as a bow with %5 stun proc). Dual wield rogue might have a slightly easier time than archer if Shadow/Assassin specced due to both weapons doubling talent dmg.

I can't even imagine fighting that guy on Nightmare.

Bioware, although this did not happen to me, if would have SUUUUUUUCCCCKKKED if the game crashed during or right after that fight. There should be auotsaves AFTER boss fights, not just before. The whole time I was thinking," please don't crash, please don't crash, please don't crash".

Oh where's the fun in that if you don't have a nice hair pulling inducing moment once a game crashes after spending far too much time on one sequence?

Try having a power failure during the cutscene afterwards. A half hour running around in circles while my dog gnaws on his ankles, only to lose it all because of electrical limitations.

Lol, the first time I foudht him it was a 15 minute game of cat and mouse, much like yours, only I was a mage, relying on WG and CoC to slow him down while hitting him with all I got. I was a TERRIBLE mage then, low leveled, and I hadn't even realized what Maker's Sighs did, so I didn't respec. I've played most of the way through act one on a few characters figuring out the game mechanics. Now I'm alomst to that fight again, new mage, new rules, and know what I'm doing alot better now. We'll see how it goes this time, and after I beat it Ican put it on here if you want

Took me around 10 minutes the first time on normal, mostly because I was a 100% aoe specced Blood Mage/Force Mage.
Most of my force abilities were useless and I couldn't freaking use blood magic due to the need for potions, only Hemmorage being any use anyway.
So I just locked him down with Gravitic Ring and staffed him to death.

The first time I got to that I was too busy laughing and thinking "you want me to do what Fenris!?" to actually fight him. So he two shotted me.

I managed to kill him nicely on my two handed warrior - didn't take too long I don't think but it was fun watching him run past without even hitting her. It helps that I knew she could take a hit if it landed. My mage tried but none of her cc spells seemed to work. I'll have to try it again now I know the fight better.

Dueled him with an Assassin/Stealth Archer and killed him in about 7-10 mins. Decoy is a god-send when teamed up with the dog. Plus the basically endless crits I got with my build really helped in cutting that health down.

Warriors got it bad though. Best advice would be to grenade him constantly and wittle that health down while he's stunned.

Don't mages get a nice finishing scene afterward. I think I saw that in a developer video. I was waiting to see ithe rogue version.... but he just walks off. bummer.

@Darkhour The finisher for a mage if you group kill him is to shoot lightning out of their staff into his chest point blank (iirc) (hopefully my memory is accurate on that one). Not sure if that's the same for a duel win or not.

Group fight is harder?

Group fight was way easier, the duel was fairly quick with a dual wield assassin rogue though. Probably took about 5-8 mins on my rogue, 15-20 on my warrior. I really hope they fix him >:(

i beat him in 20 secs flat with my DW rogue on hard. A combustion grenade will stun him for a long ass time which is enough to unload massive damage on him, also decoy is helpful as well.

I mean people should really look at some of the consumables, combustion grenade with fell poison is I WIN!!!!!!

I actually took him down fairly easily with my Templar, Sword and Shied Warrior. Maybe it was my build.
