I was thinking the other day about a possible method to create a mod that adds companion armor to the game. I do not know this this is a viable solution or even remotely possible but I thought I would through the idea out here anyways. Using the existing companion upgrade system would it be possible to create multiple items that change companion armor appearances? This would be done via texture editing and scripting. For example if I bought one upgrade that said "Leather Armor (Varric)" it would change his armor appearance. Is this possible? If so would it also be possible to have these items included in the loot table?
I do not have the techinical expertise to pull this off but if it is possible I would like to start this project and find a scripter/mod developer capable of doing the coding/mod compiling while I worked on the graphical side of things doing textures etc. I'd even love to change many of the clothing items in the game to have differing appearances for each specific set of items rather then so many reused textures.
Let me know what you guys think.

It depends.
I don't know what exactly happens when you buy a companion armor upgrade. Does it swap out the outfit for a duplicate with different stats? Or is applied kind of like a rune?
If it's the former, then it would be pretty easy to just change the model of the upgraded armor to point at a different texture. If it's the latter, then it would involve considerably more work.

Yes, I do think it is the latter, but I was wondering if there was a way to tell the game to swap out the character model based on the item that was equipped.

I've said before that I'm no coder, but maybe a script could swap it out for a different looking set when it gets an upgrade?

I'm no coder either, so without one then this doesn't look to promising lol.

It's got a few glitches but there is a companion armor mod. The catch 22 is keeping the armour on between cutscenes saves etc...
Take it easy
