im not trying to discredit any1 but id bet on it theres no trial at least not before the reapers invade.

1. Hackett states he will delay the trial
2. all shepards dialogue virtually states he not gonna go till AFTER the reaper business is done
3. Shepards still a spectre so the hell with just Humanitys wants
4. Morinth 9/10 wont like shepard hanging round lots of men in a cell
5. im guessing a lot of u are just hoping the VS breaks shepard out
6.if the reapers are owning Earth and shepards on it how the hell he gets out
7. game Developers and just about every1 and everything else foreshadows Shepard going to try an unite the galaxy then comming to save Earth

Hackett states he will delay the trial and we certanily know that the game takes place not straight after the ME2 and we dont know how long he delayed the trial for.
I think straight after the trial there will be a prison break mission after which we will escape Earth and only when the invaion will start.

Maybe they say go to earth since its not going to be a military trial.

Although that would raise the question on who would actually conduct a trial for a human ex-alliance ex/current-spectre thats being backed by a terriorist organisation and wouldn't the alliance just thinking about trying to put a ex/current-spectre on trial cause a diplomatic incident?

Saren sure proved the spectre can't possibly be reigned in after committing crimes.

It's going to be awesome, breaking out of jail as the intro, because noone has ever done that before.

That one "Shepard escapes from prison" post, or whatever it was called, was actually pretty close to being right. I'm impressed.

I also once threw that theory out there with the biggest reason being that good RPGs have a prison break and/or a trial. Oblivion started in jail; Dragon Age has a prison scene, etc. BioWare also likes to put trials in their games: Three times on Manaan in Kotor, the Tali trial in ME2, Shepard presenting evidence against Saren in ME1, and the Landsmeet in Dragon Age could be considered a trial.

I really hope not being a spectre is not going to affect the trial, otherwise my Shep will be executed for war crimes :P

Correct me if I'm wrong - but I don't think Spectres have legal jurisdiction everywhere. Parts of the galaxy are not within Council space.

I don't think ME3 would start with a trial. If the trailer is any indication, Shepard is not anywhere near earth when the Reapers invade. I don't they would hold a military tribunal while being blasted by a fleet of Reapers.

Shepard will most likely go the Jack Bauer route. Meaning that after he does everything he has to do to save the entire galaxy, including great and permanent personal sacrifice, he will be sold out by the Council/Alliance and go to prison by way of thanks.

Mmmm, politics.

The thing is: Arrival wasn't a Cerberus mission. Cerberus would no doubt approve it, but the mission itself was given by an Alliance officer, so really it's an Alliance special ops mission. It makes me wonder if the Alliance still sees Shepherd as being in its employ, and by extension calls into question the whole position of Cerberus. Is there something going on between the Alliance and Cerberus that we don't know? Is the Alliance pulling the strings and in fact foisted Shepherd on Cerberus for some reason, possibly because Cerberus is better placed to conduct the sort of missions that need to be carried out? And why was Hackett even on a Cerberus ship?

I may be barking up the wrong tree with all this, but in the event of a trial, then I think it possible that, for once at least,  Shepherd, the Alliance and Cerberus will be united.

ME3 will start with the trial. And it could be a great opportunity to summarize ME1 & 2's events for players that are new to the series or just to refresh memories.

I really really really hope they don't reuse the old "break out prison" schtick. Look, if my Shep thought there was a chance they'd throw him in jail, he wouldn't show up. Simple as that. I accept that I'll be railroaded into a trial. If I get railroaded into a stupid ass prison break...ugh.

In any case, what exactly is the evidence vs. Shep? Why can't Hackett find some other stooge to take the fall? The dudes who escaped the base: hunt them down and kill them. I certainly wouldn't have left any Batarians alive in that prison so that can't be it. Why am I implicated? Did Hackett screw up and leak it?

Why would anyone here know? And why would the ones who did tell you this early?

I've been wondering this. After all, the only eyewitnesses to Shepherd's actions are dead and the asteroid would've been vapourised in the collision. What is left to build a case on, even if there are rumours?

You have to remember that hackett said that it was not an alliance op it was a personal request from him no one other than him knew kenson was an alliance operative the batarians taught she was just another human terrorist and besides shepards specter status is just a title the council is covering there ass they can always say that shepard went rogue like saren after all shepard is working for cerberus.

And you take his word on that? Don't be so sure that others in the Alliance didn't know about this. Just saying. Appearances can be misleading.

Heh, if there is a trial or people looking to bring you in to stand trial I'm kinda hoping for a Renegade option to threaten them with Shepard's alliances, Rachni and Geth in particular.

Actually, Zulu has another theory where we adopt a Saren-like role in the 3rd game. Of course, we're trying to stop the Reapers but everyone percieves us differently becauase we have some rather extreme ideas.

If that's true, maybe we really will appear at our trial as a hologram and have a legion of geth (pun intended) at our call.

That does sound interesting and neat! Desperate times, desperate measures I say:innocent:.
In that case it would be nice if it was also somehow shown that Saren did try to stop the Reapers in the beginning at least, just to bring it full-circle-ish.

good reason why mass effect 3 start with shepard trial on earth
1. Reason why reapers would plan to invade earth first if shepard is there they could destroy shepard and create there human reaper at the same time.
2. It is a good way to start the game with basic tutorial of control if the Shepard has to break out jail solo or a few other prisoner or even with Vimire surivior when the Reapers invade.
3. Good reason for, if we have to, regather our squad due being separated duing chaos of Reaper invasion.
4. A reason to customize Shepard's face if it is damage by debris or something when trying to escape earth.
5. Reunion with Vimire surivor.

I don't think my Shepard is going to end up in prison. If it goes like it did before you're going to preach over reapers all day long, whether you like to or not.

So they're going to do the Sarah Connor thing with her. "Ah, yes. Terminators" They're gonna stuff her into a high security nuthouse (with a director who has been indoctrinated by the reapers) and your team has to break you out.

How it should go.

Judge: How do you plead?
Shepard: I'm Commander Shepard, dammit!
Judge: Sounds good to me. Next case!

How it will go.

Judge: What evidence can you bring forth to convince this court that Reaper threat is imminent?
Shepard: EDI recorded nearly every major event during out battle against the Collectors. I have proof that Harbinger is coming and --
Joker: Uh, Commander. I hate to screw you over ... again, but I was flushing out some of my porn links before we got into Council space and I accidentally ... deleted your evidence.
Shepard: May I have a moment while I kill my pilot?
