Here's something I've noticed that's rather odd, and I thought I'd post it here if not to get an answer to let some people know who may be having performance issues.
The fact is, for a start, the game ran rather jerkily, and nothing I seemed to do really helped its performance. By today's standards I don't have an awesome rig, but it's a machine that can play a lot of games at high settings and I was rather confused as to why DAO was running rather poorly, even at the lower settings, let alone at the higher ones.
Anyway, I was a few days into the game and then read about the DLC ring one can get for uploading a character with the character creator released before the game. So I did, just to get the extra ring. Suddenly, as I return to Dragon Age, lo and behold the game is running silky smooth. I bump the settings back up, re-enable AA, re-enable the filter effects, etc. and it runs just as smooth and looks great again. Taking advantage of this, I play though until the next morning.
The next day, I start the game again... it is once again jerky as hell. I close it, and run the character creator, load a character in it and skip through all the steps, then exit. I load Dragon Age again... once again it's silky smooth.
So, yeah... I have to wonder exactly what the deal here is? I don't mind having to quickly go through the CC in order to play the game well, but it seems like a really odd thing. If I can't get answers from a tech dev it may at least provide a means for other people to play the game smoother if they've been having similar issues.
My system, for reference:-
Windows XP - SP 3
Pentium Dual Core 3.00gHz
2GB RAM
512MB GeForce 8600 GT
