That's right!  I was reading the following review:

http://www.hardocp.c...rmance_review/8

and it mentioned that tesselation could not really be noticed unless you REALLY looked for it.  So I figured that, hell, why not just turn it off?  The reviewer mentioned tesselation could be turned off via the CCC and, lo and behold, I get about the same, butter smooth, performance as if I was using DX9!!!

Now, granted, my settings aren't maxed out.  I've got all the bells and whitles on (other than tesselation of course) with AAx2 and AFx8.  Even still, with my rig, I'm pulling some major fps!!!  Previous to turning tesselation off, I was getting around 28-42 fps with an avg of 35 or so.  Now, ALMOST like DX9 fps!!

So give it a try fellow ATI card owners!!  You WON'T be disappointed!!!

My rig:

780i SLI mobo/Q6600 @3Ghz/XFX HD 5870 stock(got it 2 days ago):D/8GB Patriot DDR2

It's a shame that nvidia's panel doesn't allow to turn tesselation off :(

Agreed! Actually...I just went from a GTX 275 to the HD 5870. Performance with DX11 has noticeably increased!

I am using Uningine's "Heaven" benchmark for tesselation and you can turn that feature on and off on the fly. Leads me to suspect you could do the same for the either Nvidia or ATI cards. Just have to figure out HOW to do it for Nvidia cards. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, can anyone share their experiences with tesselation and DA2? I'm asking out of curiosity. I didn't really notice a difference with it on.

Note that tessellation looks like something that's only enabled if you have Very High graphics detail set, else it may not make a difference.

For ATI users, if you have morphological AA filtering on -- turn it off.  It drastically lowers FPS if you have AA enabled, plus it muddies up the interface anyway.  I've also found that lowering the Catalyst AI settings gains me 4 FPS or so.

Awesome!  Gonna try your suggestions when I get home.  Thx for the tips!
