I know I know, I'm a game late to ask that, but redoing Origens and 'Return to Ostagar' I gotta wonder, IS he dead? After all, in Origens he looks up at an approaching emissary (I think), you see a white light...and scene change. In 'Return", you find Caillan's body. You find Duncan's watch fire; so in awe were the darkspawn they went out of their ways to deface it. You find Duncan's weapons, in the Ogre that slew Caillan. But you dont' find Duncan's body. I mean, I'm sure if his body was there you would have noticed it. Nope. Nothing. So, having read the books, I can't help but wonder if maybe Duncan survived and was taken prisoner by THE Emisary? After all, they had met before. Wouldn't that be a kick, Duncan is the villain in the next game? <LOL>
Duncan...is he really dead?

There were more that died at Ostagar than you find, most were probably eaten by darkspawn.

Darkspawn getting the human taint

His dead was pretty vague. But I'm sure he's dead. And if he hasn't died, he is dead now. I'm sure his 30 years are over by end of DA2.

There is some intriguing validity to the statement that why leave the king's body to discover and NOT Duncan's? The concept that they were eaten by darkspawn seems off... I don't know. There's the whole wardens already having the darkspawn taint. Are Darkspawn cannibalistic towards each other? Has there been anything to indicate one way or another on that? Because a tainted human would essentially feel like Darkspawn to a Darkspawn.
I'm not saying Duncan IS alive, and even if he were, didn't it say he was near the point of his calling? I think Alistair commented on that. Just that it is interesting that we didn't see Duncan's body in that DLC. It seems like it's something would have had a significant impact to include considering he was more significant to the Warden, and really, even to Alistair (despite the king being his half-brother). It's an interesting thought. Especially considering no one seems to stay dead these days.

Nope, pretty damn sure he's dead, but I suppose you can't be certain of that.
David Gaider is getting enough **** for Leliana always being alive despite being killed in some tiny fraction of playthroughs, I doubt he's got any real incentive to tackle a character that has served his purpose...even if he was a badass.

As I recall, in the books a few grey wardens who had gotten the call to hit the dead roads and die ended up accepting the Emmisary's offer, and ended up living. I can't see Duncan taking the Emissary's offer, but then again, in the book he didn't appear to against it....

the DS pulled lots of people from ostagar to the deep roads... lots of info to support that...

I have a fat feeling that Duncan's body got rid of some of the old gods "song" if he was devoured by the darkspawn, or he probably became a ghoul just like the grey warden assistant for the architect and he is supporting him..

I know he is alive. The absence of his body was NOT a fluke.

Well, alive in some manner, but maybe not Duncan's mind as we know it.
The Architect took him to experiment on and made him something else after some DS pulled him into the deep roads.

You think the Darkspawn are dangerous now, wait until they start growing beards and learn the lost art of the murder knife.

Until they decide to make him possesed by spirit of Joy and start working in Pearl or Rose, pretty much he is dead.

Awww, wassamatter Deon? Upset that other people have lives and so can't haunt the forums, thus haven't seen all the posts you have read and make new topics that someone else brought up before? Well, sad to say, the world doesn't revolve around you and your wants. And since several people seem to be enjoying this thread, why not act like a grown up and just...move on? Or, cry us a river, build a bridge, and get over it. Just sayin, is all.
And their beards will be FEROCIOUS!
