I have been a vocal critic of DA2, but I thought it might be nice to let you guys know amidst the sea of feedback here that while I have serious reservations about the direction of Dragon Age, you are still doing a fantastic job with other titles like Mass Effect, and I for one am looking forward to ME3 and I am very excited about your new SWTOR MMO. You guys are still at the top of my list for RPGs in the gaming industry, and I'm confident that you will continue to be for some time to come. We still love what you're doing, and appreciate all the adventures you've brought us on. So thank you, and despite the disappointment many of us have expressed with DA2, please keep up the great work!

I don't think there would be this much constructive criticism if these guys hadn't given us the best part of two decades worth or RPG loving. Let's strike a deal - we'll go back to idolising Bioware and it's creations if Bioware promises not to produce something as mangled as DA2 again.

It's like leaving a relationship of many years after you realize it just won't work anymore. Something has been fundamentally broken. There is still a longing for the good old times, but also sobering knowledge that something better is out there.

I'll give ME3 a try, after the reviews are in, but I truly have no hope for any future offerings from Bioware, sad to say. That includes SWTOR - which seems to look like just another WoW clone :(

Well ME3 has a different team and thats the only reason Im still going to preorder ME3. But the Dragon Age series died with DA2. At least for now, not buying dlcs, not preordering DA3 for me (if that even comes out).

Party based WRPGs? Where? All we get is EuroActionRPGs nowadays.

It's like a athlete who always gets gold medals, then one championship he ends up getting bronze. That's what DA2 is: a Bronze medal, it's still an achievement many times better then most could do, but you still expected something better here and there.

For some reason though every critic on this forum seems to think that this thirth place is suddenly last place. Same goes for 'Professional' reviews giving 50s and 60s. the saddest example the 25 of some guy, who apparently puts DA2 somewhere between the 50 cents and the barbie games? I get this game is not what everyone expected from it, but judging it on it's merrits this game is still a 75-80 game at the VERY least.

And I've mentioned this so many times. DA: O had a load of weird bugs in it, most of them took several patches to fix and some are still there today. Saying that DA2 doesnt live up to Origins because of bugs is kind of silly.

I agree with the OP; while I've been bashing DA2 overall, while praising parts, I still like BioWare, and hell, unless they start eating babies, I probably always will.

I'm ambivalent about the mechanical changes (prefer the ME style dialogue system, less so the combat changes), but rather preferred the lower key, darker and more political plot of DA2. Both DA:O and DA2 are flawed and buggy (bad, but not Bethesda bad) but ultimatley deeply lovelable and affecting games.

Wasn't keen on Awakening, mind.

I hope Bioware continue to improve what has legitimately failed (missing auto-attack, recycled caves) but above all don't think the hyperbole and hysteria currentlty gripping Bioware's forum in any way represents the "average joe" who purchases their games.

I've genuinely not regretted a BW purchase yet.

Not even Awakening. ;)

More like the athlete who always gets gold medals, but once he's in his best shape, he is outmatched by a sack of pebbles

Well, er...

**** happens?

Anyway, I'm not going to judge BW just yet. I hope they will do things better with DA3, but I'll just have to wait and see.

Remember that there are different Bioware teams for different games.

I never liked sci-fi, but I love Mass Effect...it's so well-written, the characters are complex and dynamic and overall, it's the best recent game Bioware released asides Origins.

I am pretty sure that TOR will fail and with DA:RtP, it's another black sheep in Bioware's portfolio, but I will be among the first who praise them again if they release another good game. It's just that I prefer rating gaming studios by their actual work, not their reputation alone.

That would be an economic catastrophe for BioWare, sluggish sales for DA2 are one thing but if the TOR project doesn't meet expectations bad things will happen. EA's shareholders are going to want answers, probably blood too, and unlike people on a forum their individual opinion matters a great deal.

MMO's are extremly tricky to launch. They typically have a 3-4 weeks window where they need to hook the player or they tend to drift off to more established franchises.

I'll keep the mindset that TOR will fail till I'm proven otherwise when it will come out. It might be amazing or it might just be a wow clone with voice acting.

I simply fail to see why the 18th WoW clone should suddenly be successful. It's Star Wars, yes, but even when the series was more popular than today, the Star Wars bonus only lasted for so long in SW:Galaxies.

TOR also has voiced NPCs...so what? You listen to them once and then skip the dialog...so much for this incredibly expensive feature.

Other than that...it's WoW with a sci-fi environment. Boring, repetitive quests, grinding, low-tech graphics...why not keep playing WoW? I am pretty certain that TOR will have a good start but after 2-3 months, people will just get back to World of Warcraft. It's the more polished game and it has the best publisher out there unlike the same publisher that brought you stuff like Warhammer:Online.

I doubt that EA is smart enough to make TOR F2P. They did not even bother making WAR F2P and prefer having just enough users to backup the server costs...or worse.

WoW is not the only modern profitable MMO. There's still EverQuest 2, LotRO, EVE Online, Age of Conan, Rift... all these MMO's who somehow manage to live outside the space vacuum you think WoW induced in the MMO market.

You seem to be missing the point here. If TOR comes out and grabs 300k subscribers and stay at that level then, to management, TOR will technically be a failure. It might bring in money but it will never be the game to dethrone Wow.

All of these MMO are not content with the current market share they have. They all want to grow outside of it.

EVE is it's own little thing.

Firstly, I absolutely love the fact that you used the word "kerfuffle."  What a brilliant word!  I haven't heard it for yonks.

Anyway, while I expected more from DA2, I certainly wouldn't have called it a "bronze medal" sort of game.  To me this was a bad game even if you try to judge it on it's own merits.  To me it's more of a "fail to reach the finish line" sort of game.  It's just too far from a complete and tolerable game, but that's just my opinion.

Really? I remember EA CEO John Riccitiello saying that if TOR reaches 500k subscribers it will be profitable enough, and that 'anything north of one million subscribers is a very profitable business'

It might bring in money but it will never be the game to dethrone Wow.

And if TOR will not dethrone WoW, it's a failure...? Not sure if that's what EA believes.

All of these MMO are not content with the current market share they have.

How do you know? Did any devs of those games I listed come out and say that they weren't satisfied with the profit they were expecting? Last I saw, most of them were getting expansions regularly.

They all want to grow outside of it.

Seeking to expand your business =  it hasn't reached previous expectations? = it's a failure?

EVE is it's own little thing.

my post is up there.

Well to be fair RIFT is a WOW clone, and that seems to be doing well so far.
