@Alistairlover I dunno about mashing x. PC exclusive, me. How do you spam Winter's Grasp? Doesn't it take a while to recharge? By kite, do you mean try to react to telegraphing and move out of the way, or just go away for a bit to heal?
I'm, as we speak, fighting the Bone Pit mature dragon on nightmare in a window next to this. My party is suboptimal. I've got lvl 8 Varric, Anders, mage Hawke and Aveline. I'm doing max 400 damage with cross class combos, occassionally. Stupidly, no-one is doing any cold damage, but I'm working around it. I'm repositioning, without it feeling cheesy. I'm standing away from the wing buffets and stuff, where possible, using every heal option as soon as it recharges. Dancing away from obvious melee attacks, where practicable. Trying to keep Varric safe because he's actually doing decent damage. It actually feels similar to Firkraag, to me. Without 7 buffs buffs per character and the need to memorise breach 4 times.
@Persephone It's sad. I don't like posting here much at the moment, but I'm making an effort, just to prove I exist, probably.
I would play the game on PC too, if my PC wasn't so ancient (it can run KOTOR and older games, however).
I was playing on Hard, with my Force Mage/Spirit Healer. Eventually the game itself got so tedious and repetetive I turned the difficulty down right around the start of Act 3.

That's a shame, because I'm enjoying nightmare heaps more. However, I guess I have been trying to vary up my party a lot, so that helps during samey battles. (I vary it for the banter.)

Having played games like The Witcher (which is my second favourite game...DA:O being the first), Oblivion, Fable, NWN, i found DA:O a super game.
So i was excited to know that DA2 was being released. My excitement diminshed very quickly when i finally got it (i did preorder the SE ).
I did finish it but it left me feeling empty...no emotions like i had with DA:O.
I still play Origins. I'm addicted to it...lol.... but DA2 is a forgotten game already for me.
Unless there is an full expansion pack or some miracle DLC to put right what was wrong with DA2..it will remain a forgotten game.

And this is why I run around playing on casual. I'm here for the story, not to get shanked every time I walk out of my door my a army of rebels who are then reinforced by paratrooper leaping down from the rooftops (Which is a what the heck moment, seriously guys this isn't assassins creed)
QFT. Unfortunately, Mr. Laidlaw/EA suits will misinterpret that and instead make the game even more of a mindless hack-n-slash, just because they believe people can't handle a bit of complexity, or well developed characters (we learn absolutely nothing about our companions).

You are far, very far from being alone in believing this. I still can't believe Bioware made DA2.

First I wanted to thank you for your kind response above.
And second: We do learn quite a lot about our companions in many different ways. And you know this.
DAII has its flaws, but underdeveloped companions aren't one of them.

Looks like we can't win here. For the love of god Mr. Laidlaw/EA Bring back the old charecters and give me back my warden. The only thing that connects my hawke to his past life is his bloody codex page.

Agreed. BioWare used to be synonymous with the word "Quality". Now they're more associated with "Underwhelming", IMO.

When I hear statements like this, I think either hyperbole has really come into fashion, or that I was one of the fortunate ones that ended up with a different copy of Dragon Age II than the "bad" one going around...

I may have worded my opinion a bit weird. What I meant is that we do learn about our companions - through the codex. For example the reason why Bethany is closer to you, while Carver resents you isn't made clear by interacting with them, but by reading the codex.
"Carver felt like the dumb one, and an outcast. At least his death had purpose", or something like that. While the actual conversations themselves are limited to twice a chapter, 20 seconds long at most. We don't learn about their past. All we know is how they're doing right now. The companions felt kinda shallow, too.
