Ghost Step is an Invisibility-like feat, IIRC. You said you took Ninja for it, so I'd expect you to know what it is.

I agree that HiPS (or stealth in general) isn't necessary in the campaigns, but flanking isn't always a reliable source of sneak attacks, so Feint or HiPS is usually advisable. Feint is melee only, so HiPS is the logical option for this kind of character.

If you don't want to rely on sneak attacks and prefer more casting power, then ASoCK is a great class.

Ah, i'll give it a try! If Ghost Step makes me invisible long enough to reposition myself to a flanking position, then it's doing its job.
I'll letcha know how it goes if you are interested. :P
Thanks for all the feedback. Now, it's time to actually play what I've got down on paper. :wizard:

Your reasoning that I don't consider HiPS worthwhile in the campaigns is correct, but if you wish to make effective sneak attacks without having to flank an opponent, but still retain a reasonable level of arcane casting, then why not try a build with Assassin?

You could go Rogue 3/Wizard 7/AT 10/Assassin 10 and have 21st level casting (with practised spellcaster) and you'll have (if you pump Int instead of Dex) a good chance of paralysing opponents with your Assassin Death Attack (DC = 10 + 10 assassin levels + Int modifier). When the opponent in paralysed, you will be able to sneak attack at will. With Assassin 10 you'll have HiPS anyway as a back-up if Death Attack is saved against.

You'll still have 9th level spell casting for Invisible Needle, and can drop the extraneous feats you need to take to qualify for the other prestige classes (like Mobility, which is practically useless for that character given it's high tumble).

More AB is always better, so you can take Weapon Focus:Ranged Touch Attack and possibly Epic Prowess later on. This character is more a sneaker who can cast, rather than a caster who can sneak.

I should mention this: there's a lot of sneak attack immune enemies in the OC(s), so you'll have to rely only in spells against them. At late levels, consider taking 10 Rogue levels for Epic Precision and sneak attack damage to everyone.

10 Rogue for crippling strike (bonus feat) is a good idea as it allows you to pick up epic precision. EP gives half sneak damage against sneak immunes. However I believe the 10 Rogue levels need to be picke pre epic to qualify, thus your casting development will be late.

I heard that Epic Precision, Prowess and Crippling Strike did not effect spells? Also, does sneak and death attack dice stack? I've got the build here with the Assassin class added: http://nwn2db.com/bu...56701&version=1

Not sure on the EPre and CS regarding spells, but I believe prowess does. IF vannilla I would say not likely, if using K's extra content it very well could.

Only way to know for sure is to test it out in game. Or wait for someone who knows the game engine better.

Sneak dice and death dice do "indead" stack.

Epic Precision affecting spells? How? It's an sneak attack-related feat, it has nothing to do with spells. Same for Crippling Strike.

Sneak and Death Attack dice stack for damage, but not for some requirements, IIRC (Kaedrin might have changed that).

Assassin is good for the INT sinergy, but I'd go Rogue 10 for Epic Precision, and Shadowdancer. You won't notice a big difference until epic, though.

Anyway, I repeat: You don't need the best character for the OC. Use what you like most, you shouldn't have any problems with either build. Start playing and come back if you have any question. That's my advice.

Arkalezth, you are correct if playing vanilla NWN2. But, there are at least two Haks that allow sneaks on both types of tough attack spells. One is Kaedrin's class/spell/race pack other is Reerons spell's.

I know, but damage-wise, a sneak attack is a sneak attack, no matter if it comes from melee or from a ranged touch attack.

Epic Precision simply allows half damage against immunes, no matter the source.
