Yes it just sad that this thread doesn't have more comments/views.

Noticed something wrong. You stated -50% damage resistence results in 50% more damage, when its actually double damage.

I pretty much avoid using vengence altogether when making anders a dedicated healer. I have it for the skill following it (80% cooldowns). Skill used tend to be:

Rock Armour - At all times to keep him alive.
Heal - Used when ally below 25%
Heroic Aura - On at all times
Haste - Used when mana above 25%, leaving some for emergency buffer
Barrier - Uses on allies when they hit 10%, since it casts instantly while heal takes a moment. Used on self if he gets below 25% or surrounded by enemies.
Aid Allies - Used when 2 allies are below 50%. By this time most the party has taken some damage anyway.
Revive - The tactic to use it when ally is dead seems to be bugged for me, with anders using it randomly. I use this manually.
Glyphs - Tend not to use them, except maybe if specific weaker allies are surrounded by enemies.

Aggressive skills - Generally not great idea since makes him a threat to enemies, but I have used him as CCC completer occasionally, using chain lightening or crushing prison. Sometimes winters grasp, but that skill tends to freeze nearby allies.

I rival anders intentionally to get him the massive +50 health regen, and with that you can leave constitution at ~18 on nightmare happily. He usually is fine, but you need con to survive assassins.

Merrill runs elemental weapons since she is a blood mage.

Your guide is good though, especially with using avalines bodyguard.

I'm never wrong.:police:

Just to clarify:
-50% damage resistance will result in 150% damage received, not 200%.

The formula is probably something like: Damage x (1 - Resist/100) = Damage Dealt

I specifically tested it before posting the guide.

The Ideal Support Healer is Hawke. Play a mage, then you can squash the psychopathic Anders without regret in Act 3.

Nice work, thanks :). It's not 100% though, he still brainfarts every now and then, but nothing a quick micromanage can fix.

I was wondering. Being that I'm not max level and all in my playthrough, if you could maybe do a skill order or something along those lines. If not, that's cool too, I understand that's a bit of work to be asking for. :)

I feel bad about abandoning this thread. I've been lazy, or you can say uninterested in this lately, going back to ME2.

Anywho, the thing is, I didn't write the guide (intentionally) in a 'follow X,Y,Z precisely and receive A,B,C' manner, but rather as a 'hey guys consider, if you do X you can get  A'.

The intention was to show a mechanism that was somewhat overlooked; and while I do supply an example of 'follow X precisely to get A' it is only partial, meaning that after about level 12 Anders will have more points than I tell where to allocate them. This is because I don't tell you how to play (even if I wanted to it would've been senseless to discuss only one companion), only how to set up Anders to fulfill a certain role properly in a party. From there you can take him to a few different direction, and their effectiveness would depend on many factors.

This is why I can't tell you "get this at that level" because it is up to you and would be situational to your party composition.

I can however say this:
If you want the exact setup I described as soon as possible it is only fully possible to achieve at level 12 or 11 (if you use Maker's Sigh). Now if you use Maker's Sigh getting there is much easier because you don't have to carry a gimped Anders who's waiting with spare points.
I think that Haste and the Heroic Aura upgrade are the most important, but that won't be the case if all you want him is to heal; if you don't care about his offensive-enhancing abilities (shame on you) then don't get Haste and H. Aura.

• You'd probably get Anders at level 5. He'll have Heal, Mind Blast and Winter's Grasp, and 2 spare points; one you should invest in Heroic Aura the other into Elemental Weapons, or whatever.
• At level 7 use Maker's Sigh, put points into Heal, Heroic Aura, Valiant Aura, Haste, Elemental Weapons, Panacea and Vengeance.
• At level 8 get Aid Allies.
• At 9 get Martyr.
• At 10 get Swift Justice.
• At 11 get Great Haste.

From there on you're on your own kiddo. Take a towel and don't panic.

Edit: Ooh, lookie here blabbermouth, now that's impressive...

Yeah, that's about what I was wondering, "more of a what stuff is really good to have by what point", kinda thing than a step by step. So there isn't really a whole lot of reason to wait til Dissent to get Vengeance in this kind of setup what with the tactics not really allowing for many other abilities, lol. Which was one of my main questions, and I suppose I could've really just asked that.

Thanks a lot for replying though, It's a lot more than I was expecting so quickly. :)

By the way the shop of the fellow that gives you the Herbalist tasks has an amulet with +8% healing done/received, make sure you get it (it's only 1 gold).

Martyr makes Anders a seriously overpowered party member. He's practically(and ironically) a blood mage. He can have WIL at 30 by end game and never run out of mana, even with 50% sustainables on. Just pump CON instead. He can get to 70+ MAG by the end, and with a maximum +30% damage if befriended, he's a better damager than Merrill, with an equally limitless mana pool.

If you're playing a SH yourself, just watch him cast Firestorms on command. My favorite arsenal for Anders includes a 3 spell rotation of Chain, Petrify and Haste. With the use of Martyr, he's always casting one of those. There's nothing more fun than seeing the Varterral perma-petrified.

Don't forget Blood of my Enemy. With his increased damage output and tactics set to attack low health enemies, he's healing himself most of the time.

Which makes sense seeing as I made Anders a blood mage in Awakening. lol

Does anyone?

Defense is practically useless, more so for someone with low Cunning.
20% elemental resistance could have its uses, but for 2 points and freaking 20% mana reserve I could find much better uses.

The last upgrade scrapes 5% of the bonuses from the caster and gives them to the party; that's virtually no gain.

They stack correct? I've been playing with the idea of having three mages all with fully upgraded arcane shields (25% defence/elemental resist to mages, 15% to rogue).

I don't think that it would be worth it however, and I didn't design an anders-free setup just to include him again haha. If I can spare the points I'll probably just use arcane shields on both my blood mages (20% for mages, 10% for rogue/warrior).

damn its that bad huh? Well time to repect him lol

Also do you think you'll write a build for Anders as a DPS mage? I've heard he's the best at it and it makes sense to build him as such if your playing a healer.
