Yatzhee did not like DA2? Well, isn't that a big surprise... Occassional references to Bioware being good at telling a story excepted, I do not think Yatzhee has ever liked a Bioware game, and very rarely has anything good to say about them.

I'd liked to see a Zero Punctuation review of Baldur's Gate 2 actually. I wonder what he'd say about that.

Yatzhee always isolates and exaggerates the negative points of every game for comedic effect, freely admitting positive reviews just aren’t as entertaining (or at least, a lot harder to make entertaining). Long-time fans have a better chance at picking up on the subtext to see if a game is truly good or bad.

I loved Dragon Age 2, I was very happy with it and I still play it, but I have to agree with alot of what he said in that video.

Okay, whatever helps you folks sleep at night.

Umm, comedy aside, the points in his reviews are dead on.  I even went back and watched him rip up some games that I like.  He was right about the negatives in every one.

The contrast between his DA2 and DAO reviews is particularly edifying.

You can tell he's a big newbie since he's saying he's completely unfamiliar with using anyone but his main character. I thought his vids were funny for the first few times, but they lose much of their luster after that. The Dead Space 2 one wasn't that funny either.

Spot on. The thing I personally like about Yahtzee is that he seems to be absolutely blunt and honest.

I know, everyone is always so shy and nuanced on the internet.

Good to know that someone else noticed that the game was pretty bad.

Yeah, you don't get that much on these forums, huh?

That 5 minutes review gave me more entertainment than the game gave me in 25 hours. And for free.

His DAO review was freaking hilarious and while many of the criticisms both times around were valid this review just wasn't as funny. Plus you know all the standard things he just gets flat out wrong , which also applies to both videos but is excused when it's funny at least. Only got a few chuckles this time.

I'm not a fanboy.

He got nothing wrong in his DA2 review. He was dead on right.

Contrived and ill-conceived 2nd hand opinions perambulated from a critic with no interest in reviewing DA2 in any but through comparison with traditional general game play features.

...riiiight because all those ''legitimate reviews'' (read: positive reviews) came from reviewers who were so freaking ecstatic about reviewing the game they missed their mom's funeral just to review the game on no-pay overtime.

Stay classy fanboy.

Actually I think he likes BioWare quite a bit, hell he said if he had to **** himself out to a developer it would be to BioWare in the ME2 review which is about as nice a compliment you'll get out of him in regards to the major developers/publishers. I think he was legitly disappointed in DA2 and that's why this review actually came off more as a serious review then we've typically gotten out of him the past two years.

Funny video, but a bit brutal. There should be an age check on it since it is about an M-rated game.

It's ZP, you should know better to go there if you can't stand polemics and mature/adult language.

This is very unfair. Whenever that guy is "blunt" and honest, all love him.

When I state my opinion bluntly, I get flamed, and was even banned for it once.

Quality wins in the end ~ and in this case it's the difference between making money out of it, or being banned from forums.

I wouldn't quite fault him for that, as Bioware made clear on various occasions that DA2 is supposed to be both playable as "a thoroughly tactical roleplay experience" where you have to manage your whole party, and as an actiony button masher, where you basically just go to town with your main char. There was this particular dev video, where they showcased how they'd do a battle scenario both ways. Personally I thought that showcase vid was somewhat flawed in various aspects, but bottom line was that Bioware claimed you can go both button masher or strategy overlord. There was also the claim that on normal difficulty, you only need to manage your MC properly. They even included auto-levelup buttons, giving you even less incentive to take a look at your companions skill trees. Can't really blame Yahtzee then, if he goes on and plays it like a button masher.

BTW it's not the way I play the game, but if Bioware intended to market DA2 to the casual action crowd and "streamlined" the gameplay accordingly, then they have to live with some reviewers judging the game by those standards.

Playing games has been a livelyhood for him for some time now, or I think you need to rethink what newbie means; besides how you could ever justify it being used as an argument that someone elses opinions on any game are void, esp. a game catering to a casual crowd.

Or I'm certain that you would call a friend of mine a "newbie" for only getting to level 11 in WoW after 3-4 years, as all he does is fish with his friends, despite the fact that he has worked in games for 12 years by now and is currently a lead artist over at a AAA german game developer.

well, we know the games he loves. Half-Life and Prince of Persia Sands of Time. He loves both of those games and refers to them a lot. Still, even games he openly supports and likes get bashed. There is no ZP episode that doesn't offer at least 3 straight minutes of bashing.

He loved the Thief series as well... Looking Glass Studio's jewel.

Ya... all of a sudden hes serious. /Sarcasim

I agree with him but I wont suddenly put this one single review on a pedestal above the others because I agree with it. Neither should you.

Hehe..  good to see you around! And I wouldn't idolize his review either. I just happen to agree with it, to some extent. But he failed to mention that DA 2 lacks more waffles and that's unforgivable!

... And Silent Hill 2.
And didn't he like Portal?

And anyways, at least Yahtzee throws all the negatives at you. If you are after that still interested, you know the game would be a good purchase for you. Too many other reviews just reinforce hype.
