There is much truth in this.

On the other hand, I take a good cliché-loaded LotR-Clone over an oh so creative heap of garbage everyday.........

After all, all of the games on this chart that I have played were epic, and i hear the others are even better, sooooo.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

So, he bashes every game and in the end he claims he likes it or doesn't like it.  Does it matter wherther he likes the game or not?  They're all bashed.  What is the difference?  Oh, the difference is that he likes this ****ty game and not that ****ty game.  Wow, we must really pay attention to that opinion  because if Yatzhe likes it, it must really  be different because um because something.

Yatzhe is a good laugh and makes a point about all these games flaws but beyond that his reviews are just a joke.

No, not at all.  He criticises every game, but he does praise good games where praise is due.  In particular, as I remember, he (rightly) praises Arkham Asylum and Shadow of the Colossus.

His reviews resonate with a lot of people because he calls out poor game design (where the main sites simply do not) and he has high standards (where the main sites simply do not).  I agree with almost everything he says (about games) in his reviews... but even if he is critical I can and do still enjoy those games sometimes.

Yahtzee hit the nail on the head with DA2... but did anyone else think he sounded a bit bored in this review?  Kind of like he was just going through the motions?  I'm thinking DA2 was too easy a target  :P

Aye, its really only people who likes MP and realism, and OCD behaviour in games, that should be vary with ZP reviews, since he holds little interest in these.

That said he got 2 characters up to level 60 in WOW (one of them before it was easy, which he based one of his books upon), and he liked Minecraft, so perhaps there is a OCD part of him afterall.

If I used Yahtzee's reviews as a method of choosing what games to buy, my shelf would be near-empty

he always raises a smile, though. Oddly, I find his slagging off of games I love funnier than than those I disliked.

There's a lot of truth in that.  I thought his review of "The Witcher" was priceless!

www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/22-The-Witcher

"..so those dirty console-playing peasants don't ruin it for the glorious PC gaming master race."

And, yes, the things he hated about it were exactly what I loved about it, because I'm willing to take the 8 week correspondence course to figure out Alchemy.  He lets you know where his preferences lie and it's pretty clear if you will be in agreement with him or not.

Yahtzee always makes me smile with his reviews, even though his review of Kirby's Epic yarn frightened me.

I agree with some things he said and disagree with some, the story particularly. I found it far better than the story in DAO.

Bull****.  His praise amounts to one lame line in a sea of mockery.  His praise of DA:O is that he's played it for 25 hours with no end in site.  Ooooo.  His praise of Arkham is that he likes the combat and stealth, then tears the story down.  His praise of Shadow Colossus is that he likes the models and there is nothing else like it.  I saw a game play vid on youtube.  You clime on stuff and stab it.  Boring.  There is no story.

He likes games that have no story and mocks the hell out the stories of any game that has one.  And everything about DA:O that he mocked is applicable in DA2 because it happens in DA2 as it did in DA:O.  His rants aren't even consistant.  But his rants are supposed to mean something.  Cheech and Chong could do a better job.

After the bought and paid for Escapist review of DA2 I was kinda surprised ZP did a review at all ... maybe the Escapist wanted to regain some credibility?

At this point in time I'd say Yahtzee is Escapist. He's their primary money maker so I can't imagine their going to bother interfering to much with what makes him get clicks.

I think his reviews focus on mocking the negative aspects of games, which isn't a bad thing.  With Origins, he rightly mocks that Bioware was trying to sell it as some vastly new and inovative take on fantasy... when really, the main plot and setting was very standard, and that fact was not lost on the devs who named Lothering after Lord Of The Ring.  In the end he asserts that it does it's job of being an epic fantasy RPG well though and is addictive to those who LIKE fantasy RPGs.

The entire time he was going on about killing people and stealling their pants to sell but not before making sure your friend is equiped with slightly better pants, I was smiling fondly and thinking 'god, I DO love looting and selling pants.'  lol  I mean, he's totally right.  The inability to give pants to your friends in 2 is one of my complaints, as a matter of fact.  Isabella seems to have lost hers.  And the poor elves need a pair of shoes!  They're constantly checking their feet as though they just stepped in something unpleasant.

He likes a variety of games (see his reviews of Portal, Psychonauts, Painkiller, and Saints Row 2), just not a whole lot of them.  And from the sound of it probably not the same ones that you like.  Ya do realize that him hating on things is a schtick, right?

The more reviews I see of this guy, the more i get the feeling he just says what everyone (except for the fanbois) on the game forums says.

Only faster, and with funny pictures added.

He strikes me as having an off the wall, Gary Larson "The Far Side", kind of mind, thus his delighting in games that present an unusual diabolical humor/challenge.  Two others that seemed to have satisfied this are "Silent Hill 2" and "Thief 2".  The man simply gushed at Portal, stating he could find absolutely nothing to criticize.  Will be interesting to see how he handles Portal 2.

I watch Zero Punctuation just for the entertainment value. He usually comes up with some funny jokes that are pretty accurate, but ultimately I never put much weight into what he says. If I did, I'd probably hate every game I own. Besides, at one point he did say that people told him that his reviews weren't as funny when he talked about good things. Basically, he caters toward what people want to hear, and that's fine for entertainment, but I just can't consider it a "review."

It seemed fairly accurate to me, however, he really touched on stuff that I thought was only minor subject and didn't touch on the stuff that I thought were major issues, or at least not much. If there were more reviews/preview releases from sites who had this kind of honesty I would find it hard to believe they would of gotten much higher then 5-7 out of 10. It did seem to go more for humor then overly accuracy, but that being said it was funny and worth the watch.

As for cliche, if majority of people wanted to live a natural life they would just live theirs not play a game, although it maybe boring to some to have generally  the same thign happen at birth, explanation on why you lost your abilities, it's a RPG.  If you started powerful the game would be dull as hell.

He is an utter fool or a troll. I dont say throw that term around either.
Shadow of the Colossus is a materpiece that needs to be played in full to understand.
I love my complex games, but SOTC is masterfuly simple and elegant.
How that work of Art was released in todays market I'll never know. But its a blessing. ^_^

Same problem every Yahtzee review has.

He brings up two decent points, cloaks the rest in lazy analogies and dick jokes, then he ends the video.

I thought he made some good points. Thing is Yahtzee points out the flaws in a game, whether he likes the game or not. And usually I agree with him, even if I liked the game. But all games are flawed.
