How do you use Tactical Cloak?

I've noted about 4 ways it can be used.

1) As a damage bonus before leaning out of cover to line up a shot with your sniper rifle.  Similar to firing up adrenaline rush before taking a shot as a soldier.  Added benefit for TC over AR is that the badguys can't see to shoot you while you're lining up your shot.

2) For moving from cover to cover safely.

3) To retreat from a bad situation.

4) To flank enemies

I find myself using it for 1 and 3 mostly.  When I try to use it for 4, I always get into trouble because of how fragile the infiltrator is in terms of shields and health.

If by "to flank enemies" you also mean "getting right in front of the enemy and then put 50 Tempest shots into him", then 4)

I mainly use it to move around the battlefield aggressively, flanking or getting close to enemies. Occasionally I use it to boost a Sniper Rifle shot but you can 1S1K a lot of enemies on Insanity without cloaking and the 3 SR Upgrades you can get very early in the game (and then use Mantis in the earlier stages, and Widow later on). I never use it for 2) or 3) but that's because I've played ~10 or 11 Insanity Infiltrators already so I usually know what I'm doing.

I just finished a Shotgun Infiltrator, and the use was a combo of all. Pop cloak, move close and blast up to two enemies(one headshot kill on Hardcore), and hit cover. Move from one place to another, then wait and recload to use Viper to thin the herd. See myself getting overrun, then cloak and retreat to better position. It all worked, and was surprisingly powerful and fun to play, got to recommend it.

Don't know if it was worth it, but I had max AP ammo as my bonus to try and max the output of shotties against armor and health.

That's usually what I personally mean by flanking. And if you ask me, that's what tactical cloak is all about :)

It's also very true that you can one shot without cloak. I'm even an "agent" and I one can one shot basic enemies with the Widow at this point without cloaking. I'm using ammo powers though.

I have played a grand total of one infiltrator on insanity, and I have to admit I sometimes flank my way into ridiculous situations and end up at the loading screen :)

PS: AP is probably good for shotguns. I CQC with SMGs and also use the Widow to mix in some sniping, and so I prefer Warp and Disruptor to make sure I get a bonus against any kind of defense.

Generally speaking I use Tactical Cloak for 1, 2 and 4 all at the same time. I always cloak from cover to cover, and whilst out cloaked i'll snipe someone, up until the stage where i've thinned the herd enough and am then close enough to unleash the Locust on them.

I use it for 2, 3, and 4. It's inefficient as a damage boost. If I wanted to spam damage-boosted sniper shots, I would play Soldier.

I use it for all 4...love the cloak, I use it a lot. As for flanking, I have always taken that to mean something akin to how I use it, generally to catch the enemy in a crossfire...I cloak then place Shep in such a position that the enemy are taking fire from front and back, makes them scramble, very satisfying :-). I also spent a lot of time watching how Kasumi uses hers, yes Kasumi's cloak is superior, but there are times I can use mine the same way, the only problem with that is, Kasumi often has the same idea about the same target, I cloak, she cloaks a split second later and is generally faster than Shep.

I just don't find TC all that useful for "flanking" maneuvers. Getting behind the enemy is nice in theory, but when they all turn to shoot your and ignore your squad mates it doesn't turn out to be that useful. I'm finding that I get way more use out of incinerate than tactical cloak.

With that said, TC is nice for when I need a damage boost against something hard to kill. Also, if there are only one or two enemies left holding a position, I'll cloak and run in and melee them to death. That's always fun.

I find that Geth Shield Boost makes a good bonus power too.  Nice panic button.

So, yeah, I pretty much use the infiltrator in every way you're not supposed to.

All of them really. Tho I use it less as a damage booster now which is what I kept using it for when I first started playing infiltrator and now use it more for positioning, retreats or if there is so much enemy fire that I want to be able to line up some shots without gaining new holes. It isn’t that great as a damage booster unless it’s the difference between a one shot and a two shot kill on an enemy and incinerate works better as a pure damage booster anyway.
On an offtopic note: anyone else find the range limit on orders really goddamn annoying? I’d be trying to set up crossfire but my squadmates would only get halfway there and then turn around and come back. ARGGGG

Either for lining up a good headshot, or getting out of a jam.
Or, my personal favorite; Cloak, run up, & punch dudes in the face until they drop.

Not THE favorite, but I definitely love that one.

Funny. I use back button on my mouse.

I use the Cloak for pretty much any and everything. Advancing, retreating, flanking, getting up-close with my Tempest and as a damage booster.

@OP: I mostly played like you. It was a damage bonus or a get out of dodge power. I've picked up the Infiltrator again and now I often use the cloak to close in and deliver some elbow up close & personal. I like speccing for extra duration [and lower cooldown] as it allows me more mobility and better "oops" recovery factor.

Yep, I have noticed myself that happens, though I also found over time and play throughs, it does depend on the foe I choose this method with, which squad mates I take with me and how the cover is arranged...I find its very situation dependant as to whether it works or not.

This is why I do not flank ALL the time. I mix in sniping to thin out their numbers first so it's easier to flank.

When flanking, ideally you shouldn't be in full view of that many enemies. Preferably just your current target really.

Yep, me too...always need to thin their numbers first.

Though I do find with the right target  (non-pyro Vorcha are a good example)...after thinning them, then using a crossfire flank, you can get a reasonable enough number of them to jump their cover into the oncoming fire from your squad mates.

An addendum to the flanking thing. While enemies will start targeting your allies when you're cloaked, you can just fire a shot to drop cloaking. Another purpose is to force enemies to drop to cover: they'll run for cover, and if you're flanking properly, they'll be right in the crosshairs of your squad mates.

Yep, thats when I know my flanking was spot on....Another I have found, which I do more for fun than anything, but DAMN its a devasting method against your foes....If you take Dominance as your bonus power, in some rooms, you can place your squad in North, West and yourself in East position (or any combination of such) and dominate one of the rear guard foes, you can get a four way crossfire happening...foes don't last very long ;)....:)

Got shotgun from the collector ship.
Sneak up on enemies, and give them a taste at point blank range.
It's fun. :)

Tactical cloak is alright if you're a sniper Infiltrator. The damage bonus is good and the ability to retreat is fantastic on Insanity.

But my prefered use?

Running up to baddies and blasting a shotgun in their face. I love my Predator Shepard.

OP's pretty much nailed it as far as how TC is used. AC and EC are obviously meant to enhance the use of specific usages for TC.

Yeah, ARush is the way to go, as far as Naruto-Rushing is concerned. Part of the fun is imagining the panic in the guy's eyes as he shoots feebly at you while you pummel the life out of him at Matrix-like speeds.

If I'm doing CQC, I thin the enmies out first or remove the defenses, then TC, punch then fire into them it seems as if that punch puts them off guard to be finished up easier.
