Just wondering, is the "lost connection" part due to the freezing of the game, or is the freezing happening because of the lost connection?

I have tried everything so far. I dropped the graphics down from DX11/Very High with hi-res textures, which was perfectly playable all through Act I. Now I am running it on DX9/Medium, forced stereo, no hi-res textures, changed drivers, re-installed the game, re-installed Windows, but I still get these weird lock-ups. Sometimes they happen immediately in the game menu, sometimes I can play for 20 minutes, but it always crashes eventually. Sometimes it crashes to desktop, sometimes it locks up the whole OS and I can't even ctrl-alt-del out of the game, and have to reset the computer.

A few times, it will freeze and then resume, displaying the message about connection lost. So I disabled "automatically log me on", but it still locks up.

I don't know what changed, but I was able to play the game with maximum settings all the way through Act I. All I can think of is there was a Windows Update right before this started happening, but I didn't see any updates that would have caused this. I think they updated SSL certificates... maybe DA2 is using some old SSL cert that got messed up?

I have:
Windows 7, x64
Intel Q6600, 4 gb ram, no overclock
Radeon 5870 with Catalyst 11.4 "preview" drivers
Intellimouse driver, SteelSeries keyboard

Same exact thing with me, sometimes EA's server drops my connection to them and the game lags for 2-3 seconds and then displays the lost connection message.

Then I go into the menu, log back in instantly, and everything's fine.

The solution to the problem is to just not connect to their server in the first place, then you won't have lag, but then again you won't get achievements...
