Personally, I liked the game. It wasn't perfect by any means or 'the greatest RPG ever'. It was great for what it was and that was a continuation of the series. Bioware had stated that they had this world planned out and DA:O opened the magic door into that realm. DA:2 was our next step through the door and *bam* opened another door. That door revealed a disastrous new world.

As the game went on and finally ended, my thinking was that this game was really more of a stepping stone. Everything still happened besides what I did and there was a reason for that. Bioware gave themselves something to go on. I figure that this will shape DA:3, in which DA:3 will be more like DA:O, in terms of making decisions and goals.

The ending for the characters was very mysterious and I liked it. It is highly implied that Hawke lives of course, but the others are left open. Cassandra really didn't care about them so there is a reason we don't get the same character endings as in DA:O. This goes back to my previous point about giving Bioware something to go on as well. This person, 'should be dead and this is one alive' makes it harder for character development if they all just die.
If you prefer that you make the choice who lives and dies, that's fine but I'm happy with what they did there for future games. I would like to be able to get more out of my companions instead of just a cameo or wondering why they aren't dead, which is what we might expect from Mass Effect 3 where a lot of past companions may very well be dead.

All in all, I was pleased with the game and praise Bioware for pulling it off in a short time. Could've been better but again I'm happy with my experience.
