Okay, maybe this is simple, maybe not.

I want to get Ander's Rivalry high enough to get the bonus 50+ health but I don't want to risk losing him from the party.

Is this possible?  If he's locked in Rivalry, can I still "tip toe" around conversations and not ****** him off and make him leave?

He won't leave at full rivalry. He only leaves if you let him... do something at the end of Dissent. Don't know if you want that spoiled or what.

You can make him leave even if you don't help him out.

I currently have Anders at over 70 Rivalry at the end of Act 1. I simply chose all the anti-mage, return to the circle options I could. He's still with me and even came to visit my dog. As far as Act 3, I'm not sure you CAN get him to stay with you if you side with the Templars even at 100% Rivalry (unless you romance him). I'll find out once I get there.

Nobody leaves because of rivalry. Rivalry means that Hawke and the character have differing viewpoints, but still respect and care for each other.

Awesome. Thanks for clearing that up guys, and without TOO much spoilage.

If that's the case I'm going to do my best to ****** him off LOL.
