Has anyone noticed that the only mage who isn't an abomination in this game is Bethany?
Seriously, I can't think of one mage, named or random enemy, who isn't a demon or a blood mage.
Abominations!

There's a reason for those things being so rampant in Kirkwall.
Read the Enigma of Kirkwall codex entries.

Alain used blood magic in that act 3 quest, didn't he?

Pretty sure he got smacked in the face for resisting Grace.

The Circle Mages (enemys) and the mages that fought with the First Enchanter before he resorted to Blood Magic.

That doesn't make him an abomination however.

I think he used blood magic after the battle, to wake up the kidnapped person.
Eh, I can't remember.

And there seemed to be abominations and demons in everyone's bedroom and cellar...

If the veil is an impenetrable wall between reality and the Fade, in Kirkwall it's a damp tissue flapping in the wind. The city was built, more or less, as a massive sacrificial altar. The streets are laid out in runic symbols, the sewers have massive channels for blood flow. Thousands upon thousands of slaves were ritually executed there for centuries. Demons cross into reality there as easily as you stroll down to the corner store
And, according to the Enigma of Kirkwall, the Tevinters had something they called a "Forgotten One", which may be a reference to the elven deity figures or some uber-demon, bound under the city. So...yeah.
