I was wondering if the game is supposed to always play out like this or if there was other endings.

In my career
-I left bethany behind and she became a circle mage.
-I gave isabela the book to save her life.
-I went up against the qunari leader inside the keep.
-Anders put his staff on the ground and destroyed the chantry along with everyone inside. (Awsome cutscene)
-I killed anders afterwards as punishment for all the people he just killed
-I sided with the templars, because I got to see the destructive force that mages have when anders put his staff down. Then I reconsidered in the final moments of the conversation and chose to set the mages free, because not every mage is evil.

I loved the ending and the way the story was told in cinematics. Especially seeing who the book went to.... Very nice touch to the outro.

Now that you know my career, here is my question...
Are you always betrayed by anders or did I just not do something right?

I basicly used myself, Isabela, Bethany, and Anders or myself, Isabela, Aveline, and Anders. This way i constantly had 1 or 2 mages available for ranged attacks on groups.
I prefer an all human squad with a mix of mages, warriors, and rogues so I rarely used any dwarves or elves unless they were locked. I have always have enjoyed being a warrior so I chose that route for myself.

Anders will always destroy the Chantry, no matter your standing with him, or if you did his companion quest.

It's a tricky question. He doesn't always *betray* you, because you might agree with him, but the Chantry goes boom.

How you deal with him after that is probably based on how you dealt with him before that point.

Well, he is betraying you, because one definition of betray IS Deceive. And no matter if you side with Anders on the issue or not, he does lie to you. Period. You may be able to weasel some of the truth out of him, but you have to pry to get it, and he lies to you originally. So you are betrayed.

But yes, as others said, Anders will always destroy the chantry. The only choice is in whether you do the personal quest that technically helps him do it (He'll do it even if you choose not to the quest) and what you do with Anders afterwards.
