I haven't played in a while and I got the itch to play again. I inserted Disc one into my drive and the drive doesn't even detect it. The drive detects other games just fine. I tried updating the game as well. After installing, I tried to install the update. The Updater said I needed to install the game first. The game is installed on my computer. If I were to uninstall to re-install, how am I to be sure that my disc drive would even be able to read the disc? What should I do if it does not read the disc?

System:
i7 920
Vista 64bit  :(
9gb of DDR3
ASUS Rampage II mb from the Asus CG5290
Asus NvidiaGTX 260

As I detect you've realized from your other questions, if the disc does turn out to be damaged, it's a lose-lose situation. If you un-install you won't get to re-install it, but you can't play without the disc anyway.

With that in mind, I'd suggest un-installing and going ahead with a re-install isn't likely to make anything worse.

As long as you have your CD key, you can register it with the EA Download Manager and re-download the game from the EA Store.

The game should prompt me to keep my saved games right?

Yep, there should be an option in the uninstaller. I'm only 90% sure it's set to keep them by default, so do be sure to look for it. :)

When I re-install the game should the installer look for the saved games as well?

When I go to uninstall the game, the uninstaller says that ME2 was not found.

Download CCleaner or Glary Utilities, and see if their uninstall feature will help you remove the game.
If it doesnt, you can manually delete the various files and folders, and then use the above mentioned programs to perform a registry sweep and clean out the various registry entries pointing towards ME2.
Just to be on the safe side, I would suggest backing up the following folders to USB stick or something similar.
My Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect 2/Save
My Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect 2/Profile

Ok. So now I am where I can play the game at least. Now as I play the game the screen just freezes. I can't get it unfrozen unless I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and then hit cancel. After no more than a second, it freezes again. Why?
