So I was reading Gamer (Best Buys video game mag) and it mentions combining spells and attacks for combos. Simple enough that I know you can upgrade chain lightning with a staggered opponent for extra damage, thats the cross class combo. But I'm curious if theres any mage spell combos. This article says you "combine paralysis + electricity to get sustained immobility," mages have both so I'm going to experiement to see how it works out but I miss the place glyph of repulsion on a glyph and paralyze and get a mass paralyze, that kinda thing from Origins. Does anyone know of some good combos I can do with my mage hawke?
I apologize if this is a repost, I googled and searched forums, looked at gamefaqs over the week and couldnt find anything so here I am.

I am curious about this too. I've played two mages so far, and I've been noticing that either tempest or chanin lightening would occasionally cause enemies to cease attacking and writhe in pain. Not sure if it is connected to them being affected by another effect or not, however.
I've not noticed any mage/mage spell combos otherwise.

Both Tempest and Chain Lightning interrupt when they deal damage. Tempest is ridiculously useful for halving the effectiveness of large groups of enemies for an extended period.

Tempest + Firestorm will pretty much shut down any enemy aggression in their area of effect for the duration of Firestorm.

Well I tried the paralyse+lightning, I'm not sure if maybe one mage is too slow to accomplish the goal but it doesn't seem to do much. I tried mix matching different skills, it seems that some pair up well but don't cause any special effects. Its a shame too cause I'm a complete fail at micro managing four people. My first attempt at the first real boss in chapter 2 failed miserably. First it was the tank didn't have energy, then it was the heal cool downs were too long, then the agro was difficult to manage. I must of respec'd and reloaded a dozen times before I managed to get something that worked. Sorry for rambling. I guess I'll reroll a warrior!

Pull of the Void + Chain Lightning is deadly, too. And while they're stunned and in one place from the CL, add in Tempest and Firestorm and watch everybody but bosses fall down dead. PotV + Glyph of Paralysis is also effective at holding a number of enemies still, useful when you're dealing with large mobs.

Yea that will destroy large groups.
Any spell combo that will slow or weaken during aoe dmg will work good. Even using glyph of repulsion to bounce enemies back in firestorm works good.
You could also use sleep and Death Cloud to paralyze groups if you didn't want to upgrade sleep. Also that will give constant spirit dmg, reduced attack speed, movement, and dmg resistant. Really it's better than upgrading sleep.

Hmmm, Merrill is about to level up. Methinks it's time I grabbed Tempest. Walking bomb too, perhaps. I respec'ed her out of Walking Bomb earlier in the game. Maybe I will have better luck with it now that I am solidly leveled up and have more CCC potential.

I used Cone of Cold on a row of snipers in Legacy - they all froze and then I did a Telekinetic Burst on them and I could swear they all exploded. I've had trouble replicating the effect though.

I'm quite sure telekinetic burst will not shatter brittle targets. You probably had someone else using archer's lance, or mighty blow, or etc. without realizing it. Or just someone else doing a lot of damage.
