How much flirting allowed?

I figured I must have screwed up somewhere. While I hadn't romanced anyone, I had flirted as I had before. I figured something about that messed up my rivalmance. In a fit of pique, I restarted the game.
I'm early in the second act. I want to be friends with Anders. I haven't decided if my Lady Hawke will turn to him when Fenris ultimately dumps her in Act 2 or if she'll remain faithful to Fenris. I'm leaning towards Fen because I have hard time with the lies that Anders tells her "for her own good" in Act 3. Still, I haven't done the Anders romance, so it is a possibility.
Anyway, I'm "speaking to Anders" after Tranquility. There is no way I can tease him without him getting angry and giving me rivalry points. If my LadyHawke is nice, she winds up with a broken heart icon or multiple flirt options. There's no neutral territory. I really don't want to destroy my chances with Fenris again.
So, TL;DR, will this early flirting ruin a Fenris romance? Should I tell Anders no dice from the get-go? Any ideas what killed my 2nd rivalmance? I didn't have girly fun with Isabella or even flirt with anyone else (well, Aveline, but that hardly counts--I did it for the lols).

after tranquility I think what happened to me is that if you just play it cool and never choose the heart icon but go with the humor/sarcastic option, Anders will not even go into the whole flirting spiel. So you wont have to choose between the two hearts and the broken heart. However, even if you choose the broken heart thingy you can bounce back from that later if need be...
I tried the humor/sarcastic option before on this and Anders still flirted but I did have all the options and chose the friend. Later in the game, I flirted with Fenris and sort of had a one night stand with him. My Hawke wants power so I'm playing it as is and trying to get Sebastian as a stepping stone to be Vicount.

As to tranquility and Anders, I always either start the very first combo with sarcastic option and then there are no diplomatic turning into hearts, or I let it go on, it's shameless flirting... until on the second convo he goes on about how you two are a bad idea and I just agree. Gives me friendship every time. And I did both friendmance and rivalmance with Fenris after such a dialogue with Anders so I know it doesn't ruin the romance.
And 'Don't go' is for people with 100% after a Bittle Pill. At least for me it only came up if I was at 100%. Might just be some high number.

Interesting.. although, I have had the flirt option open with Sebastian in Act 2. Haven't finished the game on that path yet. RL comes first

I kind of liked my Hawk's rival response to Anders: "You're glowing again." I thought the first diplomatic response to him gave me the two hearts. I'll try it again. I'd rather have 5 points in rival than a broken heart. I really don't want to mess up my Fenris rivalmance again.
I can't help it. That voice....*swoon*

You can flirt, you just cannot finish a romance with him. Though, have you seen what that's like? LOLz

I've read that the "don't go" option only needs 50% rivalry. I think I had 100% with Fenris. Is there actually a way to read the percentage or are people judging by the how close they are to the end of the line? *ahem* (I should probably read the little booklet that came with the game, huh?)

As I said, I don't know cause I was at 100% by end of bitter pill both times I romanced Fenris. We're just that kind of (dis)functional couple LOL.
Yeah, diplomatic on first convo with Anders gives you 2 hearts/1 heartbreak. Just go sarcastic or aggressive and it should eliminate the problem altogether.
First time I heard about any issues with Fenris was on these boards... I never had it fail.

I've heard that in order to get the "Don't Go" option for a bitter pill, you have to have said "I'm willing" to his proposition in Questioning Beliefs (you know the one i'm talking about!
I ALWAYS say I'm willing. It's Fenris afterall.

Brooding means a lot of bottled-up passion and frustration.

I like Fenris' assertiveness. He opens up quite a bit during private moments. Flirting with him is fun. There's tension and a little tease for more. As opposed to Anders who throws out a flirt, you flirt back, he suddenly goes "Oh no, we can't do this...I'll just hurt you." I hate hate hate that.
Fenris is my 2nd favorite romance. I just keep wanting to see those green eyes. He's an interesting character though. I just prefer stuff like this.

Fenris' romance dialog is incredibly well written and acted. Therefore, it tugs on heartstrings like crazy. I don't think I'd want a broody man IRL -- but in video games, as long as the romance talk is good, all is good!

1) We were not given a non-broody male romance option.
2) Angry sex.

Pffft, that voice. Those eyes. I typically don't like broody types. I don't mind Fenris as much because given what his life has been like, I figure he has reason to brood a bit.
Seriously, he could read me the phone book and I would be content. Well...probably. :innocent:

Usually there is the good/nice characters and then there are the others. Granted said Good Characters may have a bad side to them to add "Character". So lets analyze at least Origins and Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2 is better for where I'm going with this. Especially since DA2 is more catered to players who played it and it had a lot of romance options.
For Origins
(Goes Both Ways)
Leliana = Nice Girl with a past as a Bard. Was betrayed and hurt but found the Chantry. Wanted to join the Warden. Generally wants to be good but she does enjoy killing people. Warden can decide to tell her to keep following the Maker or Embrace being a Bard again. Not a really sure if many would consider it a "Fixer" or not. Hardening Leliana doesn't change her demeanor as much as Alistair.
Zevran = Charming Assassin. He doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. He keeps a lot of secrets. He's had to kill many. One of his last assignments hit him hard. Not really sure if it's a fixer type. Not even sure how loyal he can truly be.
(Female Warden)
Alistair = A Good guy. Bastard son of King Meric. Doesn't think highly of himself. Glad to follow others. Probably fears people expecting so much from him cause of who his father was. If he is hardened he starts to stand up for himself and for what he wants. Has more of an effect on outcomes than the relationship.
(For Male Wardens)
Morrigan = The Bad Girl Apostate. She keeps her secrets. She doesn't want love. She is the puzzle to crack I guess. She takes sex casually. She prefers to be in control. But what is she truly planning? No real fixing by the player, instead it's attempting to tame her. Which doesn't really happen. Relationship may not truly finish until Witch Hunt. Where did they go?
Guys = 1 Good'ish Girl, 1 Bad'ish Girl & 1 Charming guy who tried to kill him.
Females = 1 Good'ish Girl, 1 Good Guy & 1 Charming guy who tried to kill him.
-------
Now for Mass Effect 2. All Hetero Relationships. Which is probably where more of the angry threads hit about males flirting with guys. This didn't happen to them in Mass Effect 2. If they haven't played Origins? This is alien to them.
(Male Shepard)
Tali'zorah = The Nice Girl and Old Friend. Not Human. Even if she wants to destroy all Geth. No real fixing there. She's just in awe of him and the fans wanted her to be a romance. Key thing is no real fixing. She just is who she is. I liked her in ME1. Players crying is probably why she became a romance. Though don't care who you are, hug her when she sees her dead father!
Miranda = The genetically designed chick who may or may not hate that fact. More of the middle ground of the good/bad girl. Can Shepard fix her into not doing the Illusive Man's Bidding?
Jack = The Bad Chick, Criminal and a walking wrecking machine with apparently Survivors Guilt. Can he fix her and get her feel happy? Or something like that. She's another Fixer.
(Female Shepard)
Garrus = Generally a Good Guy and an Old friend. Not Human. Has been learning basically everything he knows outside of C-Sec from Shepard. Like a student admiring the teacher. Everything he had is gone. He feels alone and he thinks it's basically all his fault. Can She help him to be happy and optimistic for once? Kind of a Fixer.
Jacob = He's the Generally Good Guy. Like Garrus he is a Soldier. Just this one is a human. He just is who he is. Doesn't really change. He is more worried about Shepard than she would be worried about him. So not really a Fixer. He's just the Human option in this scenario. At least to me his story seemed Bla. Plus he looks like Kanye...
Thane = Somewhat Good Guy Trained Assassin. Not Human. He is completely calm. He is dieing and won't last say a year. Blames himself for the Death of his Wife. He is used to being alone now. Can she make him feel alive again? At least for a night I guess. Slight Fixer.
So to sum up Mass Effect 2
Males = 1 Good Girl Alien, 1 Kinda Bad Girl & 1 Girl that kinda wants to kill everyone she sees.
Females = 1 Good Guy Alien, 1 Good Guy Human & The Die'n Alien who is Cool as Hell.
Dragon age 2.
Broody Male Elf, Broody Male Mage, Fun Pirate Girl that lies to you, Nice Girl Elf that dabbles in bad things.
Now the main thing is in all of those listings. None of them are Broody really except in DA2. But it's the guys that are Brooding which is weird to me. Especially Anders. I think Fenris is cool it's just unnecessary. It's more amusing that the brooding in ME2 is gone fast. Fenris emitts broody. Anders escalates until it's all he is. Meanwhile the Girls? Nope. Completely laid back and light hearted. Though one of them will betray you in a heart beat.
I do think that if a player who only wanted Hetero relationships was looking for a laid back male they will be disappointed. Guess they would just have to roll a Male and then Friendmance Merrill or Izzy. Unless they go for the "Love is making me leave you" kind of feel from Fenris in act 2. and Anders' "I will destroy you." kind of Attitude.

Are you going to amaze us again in DA2 with a Fenris dialogue mod? (If a toolset does come out at some point, of course)
I think a lot of people feel really let down by the lack of interaction / chats with the LIs this time around...
I was also really surprised that Anders still followed me at the end when I had had the heartbreak of killing him myself (lol)
