Not a troll, not an attention hungry forumite. Just expressing a real concern that just occured to me.

Dragon Age 2, bioware's last game, took place almost entirely within one city, kirkwall. Many people saw this design choice as one that, while it worked for the story, was one that was designed to acommadate DA2's decidedly short development length.  Rather than churn out another piece of a continent of equal size and variety to the first Dragon Age,  they simply placed 90% of the story in one (rather large, but still a bit reppetitive from an artistic standpoint) city.

I'm not trying to criticize DA2. It's a great game, and the focused approach worked well for the story it was trying to tell, but I think we can all agree that this is not something that anybody really wants from our favorite space-faring (emphasis on the space-faring) Action-RPG series.

Now, before you berate me in the reply's, I realize that the Dragon Age team is not the Bioware team. However, both teams actions do have a tendency to parallel eachother.

Sure, the teaser for ME3 may have been simply to surprise us with the fact that Earth is in the game, but is it really all that hard to imagine Bioware having the majority of the game take place fighting on earth? It certainly seems a more manageble task to create one large planet of content rather than another galaxy of smaller ones in a little under 2 years.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, In fact I fully expect (and hope) to be proven wrong once more info on the game is released, I just wanted to voice my concern, cause I freakin love these games.

(please don't hate me, bioware)

It's not going to happen. But to be honest, it really wasn't that much of a surprise that we were headed towards Earth.

Although I do wonder how they're going to portray any of our cities (London, right?).

Ignore the trolls. But like them I highly doubt they would restrict us to Earth. In fact Im pretty sure the game will be DA origins on the galactic scale with Shepard gathering allies from all the other races. I just want our past choices to actually matter and not just determine whether we get an email or a cameo or not

Simple. Blow them up. With enough wreckage one city looks exactly like another. All you need is one or two landmarks and a couple signs.

I am going to be very agitated if it only shows London and no other cities like New york or tokyo.

Don't worry about it the only information we have is the anouncement tralier, which tells us very little and the product listing. Here it is:

"Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of
terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As
Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving
mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one
final mission to take back the Earth."

Now it is true that it sounds very "Earth oreientated" but stil how can Shepard be rallying the different races of the galaxy if he's stuck on Earth for the entire game ?
If that still isn't enough look at ME2's product listing:

"Two
years after Commander Shepard repelled invading Reapers bent on the
destruction of organic life, a mysterious new enemy has emerged. On the
fringes of known space, something is silently abducting entire human
colonies. Now Shepard must work with Cerberus, a ruthless organization
devoted to human survival at any cost, to stop the most terrifying
threat mankind has ever faced"

We spent about 4 missions in a 30+ hour game finding out about the Collectors and Reapers in ME2. My bet is ME3 won't really include Earth that much.

I highly doubt we;ll be restricted to Earth. I wouldn't be surprised if the Finale happens on Earth though.

I figure you'll be Galaxy hopping; gathering allies and rush back to Earth for the Finale.

Two different f**King dev teams. You have no real reason to start complaining about a game that you have yet to even see gameplay for.

BW isn't that stupid. Calm down OP. BW has made a lot of remarks tha we are going to other planets, like we going to the dark Citadel in dark space.

Actually they are going much further, Not only are you restricted to Earth but you're restricted to London, And not the whole of London..actually the only thing you'll see in game is a cellar under Big Ben where Shep will throw a tennis ball at the wall the whole game.

They have confirmed more or less that planet scanning will be returning in some form or fashion.

I assume that means that we will visit other planets...

.... did you even read my OP? I fully understand that these are two different dev teams, but the situations are similar enough to start asking questions. This is all pure speculation at this point. Obviously, nothing that anybody says in this thread has any definite truth as far as whats in the game.

This Fear is my Fear too.

Since that first trailer I was a bit concerned....BioWare have the opportunity to end the ME trilogy on one of the greatest finales of all time with a galactic scale invasion..

If it ends with us having to get alien fleets by helping their kings son collect elfroot so we can save Earth...

I may just have to cry.

I want to see epic space battles between reapers and dreadnoughts, I want too see all hope lost in that battle and then fleets of certain aliens we may have helped earlier on sweep in and save the day...

I want repercussions on a GALACTIC scale... and I'm terrified they'll aim to low and take everything they've built and turn it from Mass Effect 3 into Mass Appeal 1: Cliched and Safe.

Their last few outings with DLC and other games have showed signs of dropping the ball.... :(

I seriously doubt they would restrict you to Earth. Also i don't believe DA2 being confined to one city was a result of the short dev cycle, that's the thing which is usually decided very early on.

Not really dude
1. The game is in playable version (it's in alpha or whatever and they're doing VA work right now), voicing concerns at this point is late
2. Both ME1&2 feature galactic exploration, it was a huge sell point for ME1 and the dev team sought ways to improve it in ME2 by incorporating a ship doll in the galaxy map screen and including fuel, why would they randomly remove it in ME3?
3. ME3 is using the same engine as ME2, whose engine was based off ME1.  So the map and stuff is already there would they just take it out?  It completely takes away the planetary romance aspect of the game (ME2 started down this path but there are still some awesome backgrounds for missions), rendering the space opera inert and turning ME3 into a Halo.

Show Cleveland. Then we can debate if the destruction was due to the Reapers or LeBron James.

What I'm sayin is that maybe, (and I hate myself for saying this), somebody higher up said that they wanted the next Dragon Age to be released ASAP, so they created a story that could be created as a game in that amount of time.

I don't think they are going to try the same thing twice, especially after the rather strong complaints (and expletives) from DA fans.

If this happens to ME, the ME fans, while not as... "assertive", will certainly be more in number. That alone problem dissuades any shenanigans (not that I said there was any). If it doesn't, well...

I don't think that ME3 is gonna be centric to Earth if you will be busy gathering army all over the galaxy to take Earth back and defeat Reapers.
