I really have no objection to going to Earth, I really don't. Hell, as long as the option isn't "Save Earth OR Save the Citadel" I would gladly gather allies and kick the Reapers off Earth. What's important is that Earth ISN'T the most important place in the galaxy, and I'm worried that EA is looking at this from a "Defend Earth from an Alien Invasion" viewpoint, instead of from a stop the Reapers from killing EVERYONE, not just humans. I f-ing hope I'm wrong.

I dont think that majority of game will be set on Earth, but I am worried that whole game will be about humanity only. Just look at Arrival, Harbinger was talking only about us. Our species will fall blah blah. Then the worst line I heard in ME games comes and is in my sig. EA store description is also all about humanity. Reapers are threat to the whole galaxy, not just us. If Reapers are attacking Earth only, I am not buying ME 3.

"Mining will not be removed from ME3"

That was quoted from the Bioware founder Greg Zuschek

Now, taking that into account. How do you think they would restricted us to earth?

The entire Mass Effect series is about humanity struggling to find it's place in the galaxy. ME2 it's revealed that the reapers are targeting humans specifically. How would ME3 NOT be human-centric?

I'm pretty sure ME3 does not have a very short dev cycle. Comparable to ME2. Maybe a bit shorter, but ME3 won't be a major redesign like ME2 was.

After DA:O? Wat?

It's kinda hard to screw up a third person cover shooter

My two cents on this. I am guilty of the same concerns as the OP. I don't imagine landing on Earth at day one and the rest of the game taking part there.

Realistically what I  could imagine though is having 1-2 plot missions in space, prior to going to Earth; then having the game assume the 'Okay, gather your crew and do side quests'-phase,
then going to earth to play the rest of the game, thus forcing you to
go spend most of your time on earth to advance the plot, and take your
crew out of the same dialogue loops that they've been in for the past 10
hours of gameplay.

This is perhaps a pessimistic outlook, but I don't
see it as unrealistic, either. This isn't like ME2 where you have a 2
year lag inbetween titles. This takes place right after ME2 and time is a factor to save earth. I.E. It's implied we gotta wrap things up and get there fast.

Agreed. Why the hell are the reapers
attacking just earth first? We're the youngest and probably least
advanced race. If it's revenge for killing Sovereign, then these guys
are pretty immature for million year-old beings.

It would be considerably more interesting if Earth was the final stop, after having fought reapers on a few other planets too, so it's not all 'Get your team and get to earth Shepard! The Eiffel tower is burning and someone knocked over the statue of liberty!!'

I hear its going to be worse than that. I heard from very reliable sources that we're going to restricted to a small apartment in Greenwich, London. We just run from the kitchen to the living room to the one bedroom killing Reapers the whole game! OMG BIOWARE WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE BRILLIANT GAME THAT WAS BALDUR'S GATE 2!

I disagree with the notion that DA2 was geared the way it was due to time constraints though. I think it was an interesting style choice, and a bold way of saying, 'hey look, we can have a really cool story driven RPG, without it being: hero X has to save the world from Evil Threat Y!

Furthermore the game was about having your choices impact an area.. showing you how this place could change over itme based on what you do. It would be hard to do that to any meaningful degree in one title if it was spread out over an entire continent.

Also I find being champion of just one region/city, more realistic and compelling than being 'savior of the world' all the time.

I get what you mean, but it is being developed by another team, and with more time to finish the project.
Have no fear, we won't have to enter "Cave" for the 1315th time. :)

ASSUMING, they attack Earth first, it's because they've selected us for ascension.

Sorry guys, this story is human centric. I know we all hate and loathe humans and wish this game was full of sexy Krogan but its about humans. Sorry. Really. Ok, not really.

We are the most genetically diverse race in the ME universe which is why the Reapers have selected humans to used in the next reaper construct. Also from a military standpoint it would make sense to target humans first because as humans were able to destroy Sovereign they pose the highist threat.

Mr. Gavorn: Galaxy? Alien races? HAHAHAHAHA.

Now, talking seriously, the description stated Shepard's mission will be rallying the Galaxy. He can't do that if he stays most of the time on Earth.

But, I do think we'll be there at least 2 times: one for the trial and one for the ending of the game.

Of course the whole game won't be set on Earth. But please, for the love of god BioWare, don't make humanity the big heroes and all-important species in ME3. All the races are in danger and all the races should play an equal part. That's my opinion anyway. Maybe let the player decide whether to let humanity go it alone or get help from all the races in ME3.

Well considering Arrival's ending (You know what it is!), I think that ME3 will start off on Earth with Shepard answering for what he did in Arrival. Then the Reapers invade leading to a short, but hectic scene of Earth's destruction (Like the Normandy in ME2), which Shepard is just able to escape with the Normandy, ready to travel to the rest of the Galaxy to rally support for the liberation of Earth! There, problem solved!

Yes and no. A spectre of the Alliance is what destroyed Sovereign. Shepard was an asset of the alliance; of the citadel, as were his crew, really. It seems that the alliance council and so on was the biggest threat. Hence why in ME1 the plan is to hit the citadel first, knock out the goverment etc and move on to wipe out everything else.

It seems to me that if they just pursue humans, then everyone else becomes wise to their game, and all the other races are well aware of the Reapers, where once it was this big mystery/mythology. I.E. The jig is up.

They don't outright say this to my knowledge, but it seems like in the prothean days, the protheans were the only race that had advanced that far, since no one else has records of them, or knows where they got off to.

If the protheans were one of several races that were manning the citadel and so forth, and they were singled out for repurposing and reapering etc, then the Snogdorfs (made up race that was around when they were, and wasn't wiped out) would have been left to chill and could then tell us:

'ooh the protheans? Yeah I remember those guys. Yeah they got wiped out man. Real bummer. They owed me money man, and now I can't get it!'

'So then who killed them, Mr. Snogdorf?'

'Oh that was the reapers. Yeah. They'll probably try to kill you too, so don't borrow any of my money!''

Based on this little skit, it has to be all or nothing. The whole key to the reaper invasion is the sudden unexpectedness and the scattering/chaos it creates, thus preventing effective defense. If you only hit one race, then presumably all the others are like

'Hey, dude check it out.. Big robots attacking earth, we should a) destroy that whole planet and be done with it, or B) someone should help them out, man. Pretty sweet how they didn't attack any of the rest of us through right?

'yeah'

'Wanna get a space- hotdog?'

'Yeah. Space hotdog. Then we'll mount our 'all the other races combined' offensive against those guys.'

I rest my case!

Well that's easy. I was interested in that in ME1 when it was all..

'Oo I can go anywhere in the galaxy??! Lets go see earth and see if I can zoom in on my house from space like google earth! Then i'll blast everyone I don't like with my blasters!'

Posted Image

Now they're all, 'You're going to earth shepard!'

So I'm all..

I am too.  Well I have other fears as well, but this is my main storyline fear (outside of a deus es machina destroying the Reapers).  If I wanted an "AMERICA, **** YEAH!" ending where everyone mucks it up, I'd just rent a movie like that.  I expect Mass Effect to be a bit more sophisticated, so if it does become a "HUMANITY, **** YEAH!" story, well... I'll be disappointed.

I seriously doubt that ME3 will only take place on Earth, but just because a game takes place in one planet or, in the case of DA2, one city, doesn't mean that a game will automatically suck. Theoretically the city of Kirkwall could have contained hundreds of unique maps and situations, but the reuse of maps in DA2 was a problem of execution, not of concept.

As for ME3 being human-centric and Earth-centric, I have it on good authority that ME3 will be marketed to humans on Earth exclusively, thereby PROVING that EA is an evil company that doesn't compare to the potential zillions of fans who may want to play the game.

Ohhhhhhhhh Sims Effect 3 yes please :P can we get a pet reaper and look after it, you know buy it food bowls and little Collector General toys for it to "assume control" ?

Yes ME 3 will feature Earth (hell the majority have been asking for that since ME 1) but that does not mean the entire game is going to be set on earth.  I really do not understand why people are coming to the conclusion that it is all going to be set on Earth.
