I don't get it. Wrex stays dead if you kill him, Kaidan/Ashley stays dead, etc etc. One this whole Leliana thing gets sorted out we will all go back into our happy little security bubbles of Bioware story line continuity confidence.

Or so I hope. * Disillusioned Panda*

Edit: I think the point I just need to make, just to make myself feel better btw, is just because he is or isn't dead doesn't , mean he can't come back.. or has to come back... like in Mass Effect if you save the rachni queen.. she seems uber important and I'm 100% sure she will be back in ME3.. but if you slaughter her and her BAYBEHS.. well she won't show up. A good developer won't EXCLUDE her (or Anders) because random% of people killed them off.

That 'even though he wanted to die' part is making me think the anticipated player action is to kill Anders?  I mean, is that seen as the kind of 'canon' ending to Anders' character?  I ask this because I know there are decision in the DA games which are reconned no matter what you do, i.e. whether or not you kill Leiliana in DAO seems to have no impact on whether or not she appears in DA2.

So I guess what I am asking is do you see Anders dying by Hawke's hand as the canon death for Anders?  Rather than letting him live to cameo another day in future DA titles.

So Anders ends with DA2? Good. Anders died when we realised he didn't have Ser Pouce Alot.

dead? Or is he not immortal?

I'd *really* love a dev post here.

No, he's quite dead. We could have gone to more elaborate lengths to show you... ensuring... that he was dead, but I think it got the point across.

I mean, sure, I guess if we wanted to we could come up with some elaborate explanation as to how he survived anyhow... but that's true with anyone. In this case, particularly since Anders was fully willing to die, I don't think having him live after all that would be very cool.

I don't kill Anders. I love him. <3:wizard:

With all due respect, Mr. Gaider, with the sheer amount of hand waving and retconning the company did in Dragon Age 2, it's perfectly valid to question whether or not a character that was killed off will actually stay dead, whether through design or via a bug.

Tbh, ANYTHING from DA2 could easily be retconned for DA3 with the simple phrase: "well, Varric wasn't being entirely accurate in his account...."

Whilst I'll never get over my noblely martyred Warden resurrecting with no explanation whatsoever for Awakenings, I don't think any reboots following DA2 would bother me at all, for the reason outlined above

I'm hoping that in future DLCs/Sequels that BOTH
the choice to kill him and let him live will matter. Yes certain % of
people killed him but certain % of people DO NOT... It will be really silly for him to just die in a canon because he wanted to die (like oh he commited suicide because he just doesn't want to live anymore >.>). Not to mention that a lot of Hawkes chose to run away with him at the end.

Personally I want to see more of him just because he is one of the most intriguing character I have seen in a while...

I'm not sure about the "sheer amount" part, as even a little seems to be too much for some, but certainly it's valid to question. Whether or not we'll answer is a different matter-- as I said, we'll do whatever we feel is necessary even if that includes coming up with an explanation to bring a character back from the dead (as it were). Certainly some folks don't like that one bit, but then again some folks don't like anything.

Meh, personally I don't care a bit about it since the undead characters that return (Leliana, Justice, Anders, Alistair*) are rarely actually dead in my games so it's a moot point.

* That last one is probably due to a since-fixed bug, I think.

As old timer PnP GM (a long time ago) I don't get the fuss over "plot armor".

Like in real life: you try to do whatever you think is right - things doesn't always turn out how you wanted or thought they did.

Unlike real life: in a fantasy setting I can come up with the first 1000 ways for someone to 'come back from the dead"

There are alwyas going to be characters that just doens't die permanently, because if they did there wouldn't be a story.

I'll kill characters if my PC thinks they deserve to die - yet if they come back in a beliveable way, I'm all for it. My Warden killed Loghain in DA:O, but I actually in secret wish that he was ressurected by some manner of foul blood magic and influenced by a deamon tries to have Alistair overthrown by creating a lot of chaos in Thedas. (hmm that got a bit off topic - sorry :P)

Hmm, I hope not? Seeing as there are (luckily) not such a great many canon deaths. I rather like that.

Such is the case with Leiliana (although this thread is about Anders), Leiliana was killed by my Warden in Origins on one of my playthroughs and yet appears at the end and in the Exiled Prince???  By the way and totally unrelated but was the inspiration for the name Anders taken from Battlestar Galactica?

^ Anders is called Anders because he's from Anderfels. It's not his real name, it's a nickname. (That doesn't exclude any inspirations for the name, of course).

The only things that are "canon" are the things that cannot be changed in any game: things like there being a Warden, a character named Hawke, Meredith goes insane, etc. etc. Anders being slain by Hawke is not canon because not everybody chooses to go that route.

What is so hard about that for people to figure out?
