through my playthroughs I've noticed that as long as your sibling is alive they get kidnaped to lure you, but who do they kidnap if your sibling dies in the Deep Roads?

As far as I know, your love interest if that lacks also your best friend (if he/she is in group atm) one with highest friendship score.

Play a mage. Carver deserves to die. Heck, don't even end his suffering. Leave him to suffer in the dark. And post screen shots. Little bugger has it coming.

I think the quest logic goes:
If sibling is not dead, then kidnap sibling.
If sibling is dead,
and if love interest is not in party, then kidnap love interest.
Else kidnap highest friendship companion not in party.
If sibling is not dead, then kidnap sibling.
If sibling is dead,
and if love interest is not in party, then kidnap love interest.
Else kidnap highest friendship companion not in party.
