Why Shepard's Trial is on Earth?

Because you didn't/still don't write the Mass Effect series.

To be honest, I had this idea myself, that one of the possible scenarios could be the Reaper invasion commencing in the middle of the trial. But it was way before it became clear that the Reapers were going to start with Earth, and I kinda drifted away from it, also not in small part due to the fact that it couldn't provide the necessary reason for nerfing Shepard's skills (as opposed to a lenghtly imprisonment). BioWare, however, seems to have drifted towards it, due to it's "coolness", I presume.

I haven't followed ME3 developement obsessively, so I could easily have missed something.  Do you have a source for the contention that the "Reapers were going to start with Earth..."

I just rewatched the trailer and I didn't see any indication of that... In fact, the soldiers statement that if Shepard doesn't bring help soon... could easily support your early speculation that the trial is interrupted by the invasion.  Suddenly Shepard's argument "I did it because of the reapers" carries weight and the political powers start screaming "save us, save us" so they turn him lose.  The soldier knows that Shepards rallying help because the trial was public or some such...

Anyway... if you have other indications besides the trailer, could you point me in the right direction? Image IPB

Thanx,
-A

Tangentially related - who, other than Hacket, Shepard and the Normandy crew knew that Shepard was in the area?

No one said Shepard was going to be arrested...

Hackett ASKED Shepard to go to the trial

Pay attention to the dialog

They made sure in ME1 to point out that even though Shep became a spectre, he is STILL part of the Alliance.

Can someone post a link to a video of this? I only remember the Normandy arriving at the last moment as per and then exiting through the relay a second before impact. It's quite embarresing that I don't remember; I only played it yesterday.

When Shepard first get out and heads towards the communication tower, a shuttle flies away towards the relay.

I'm thinking that Shepard's trial will be like this.

I can't find anything on YouTube that shows it (although admittedly I haven't been looking very hard), but it may be that if you tried to warn the population of the impending disaster that they did actually get the message and evacuate. It's my turn to clutch at straws it seems.

Though depending on your playthrough the Council also wants nothing to do with you.

Or depending on how you treated the Council when you last spoke to them in ME 2, you could already be in a potential witchhunt. I have one Shepard who totally rejected reinstatement and even threatened them. Can't wait to see how that plays out. hehe Image IPB

I think that the paragon/renegade options may have important consequences for Shepherd. I'm suggesting that if you tried to warn them and they did ultimately get the message, then the outcome for Shepherd may not be as bad as if you didn't warn them, in which event it's a case of more the fool you.

The only thing that went through from the warning was "Attention all Batarians in the system". Nothing more, so it's likely nobody escaped, or Hackett would have mentioned it.

@1:10

the shuttle can be seen going straight for the relay after it leaves

I can track with this idea... a recording of Shepard starting to send a warning gets made by some source and it appears in a trial (if there is one).  Speculation though.

The choice will probably get mentioned later down the line, but it doesn't change anything regarding the actual Arrival DLC.

There may have been batarians there who put two and two together and realised what was happening, and it's possible that Hackett didn't know everything about the outcome, or Shepherd for that matter. Regardless, it may have been anyone in this shuttle, and if these people were criminals anyway, then their word wouldn't count for much in accusing Shepherd.

"Attention all Batarians in this system"

batarian: "OMG, the whole cluster is going to blow up!"

I highly doubt that.
