Anyone consider maybe the Protheans found a way to protect against Indoctrination towards the end?

Maybe they did and hid the power in the beacons. Shepard has already come into contact with two (if you did the ME2 sidequest.) Perhaps with the help of the Cipher, Shepard has subconsciously learned to block indoctrination.

That can't be the case, Saren was exposed to the beacons too, He was indoctrinated towards the end.

I thought he was indoctrinated by Sovereign pre-beacon? Didn't he find Sovereign before Eden Prime?

He suspected he was being indoctrinated which is why he began to research the effects of indoctrination on Virmire, I don't remember if the beacons were part of that or if they were just for finding the conduit and Ilos though.

I think Benezia says it's a slow and subtle process where your thinking is changed gradually. Shepard's spent at most two days in the presence of reaper tech, both of which he was unconscious, so most likely it simply hasn't had enough time to happen yet.

Saren found Sovereign decades before ME1.

So yeah, he had plenty of time to get secretly indoctrinated. I mean Legion's recruitment shows that people can be indoctrinated by even a dead Reaper for no purpose, imagine what the living Vanguard of Destruction could do.

Not if you're a fable protagonist it only protects you from:

Paper cuts
turning into a troll
ordinariness
acne
turning into a balvarine
and well that's it.

i always just assumed that shepard is never around reaper devices long enough to become indoctinated. it seems that you have to be around one for a few weeks for it to happen.

Doubt it has anything to do with the Prothean beacon, remember Saren used those and it certainly didn't stop him from being indoctrinated. I'm not really sure.. I'm hoping that we won't be seeing Shepard experiencing "belated indoctrination" in ME3. But this question has been nagging at me since finishing Arrival.

Saren was indoctrinated before finding those Prothean beacons if I recall correctly. Saren found Sovereign independently after following the leads from that Doctor, because he wanted to utilise the warship to destroying humanity or something. However, when he found Sovereign his previous wishes to destroy humanity was seemingly drop-kicked out of the proverbial airlock and he found himself trying to 'perserve' galactic civilisation (including humanity) by being the willing lapdog even dogsbody of Sovereign and the Reapers.

This means to me at least, that he was 'Indoctrinated' as his attitude shift occured.
