For the life of me I can't remember where I read it, but I think I saw somewhere that if you do Anders quest in Act II then he gets vengeance for free. Can anyone confirm/deny please?
I want swift justice and martyr, so was planning on getting it, but if it's available for free I'll hold off on putting a point in it.

It's the Fade Mission, not his personal quest. If you bring him to the Fade, Vengeance takes over, and you are granted the sustained for free.

So that's what happened! I thought this was similar to me getting two spec points at 14 instead of one.

Just did it, it's definitely his personal mission (Dissent) that gets him vengeance, not the fade.

He gets it whenever Justice takes over for the first time if you haven't chosen it during level up.

I did the fade mission first and he was Justice the whole time, but I didn't get vengeance. Killed Torpor and saved Feynriel and didn't get it, then reloaded a save and sided with Torpor and fought Anders. No vengeance either way.
It wasn't until doing his personal quest that he got vengeance.

You sure? It didn't go to his quick bar on any of mine, but the icon became filled in on the Abilities screen/tree. Didn't notice the first time for quite a while.

Same with me, I had to manually drag it from his abilities to the quick bar. Re-reloaded saves to double check I hadn't missed it, it was definitely not there after the fade mission. Only appeared for me after his personal quest.
Wouldn't surprise me though if it unlocks at different times for different people, apparently DA 2 has a LOT of bugs atm, maybe this is one of them.
