Now I'm just curious as to what kind of patch information would be illegal.

"Amount of Black Tar Heroin used in DA2 coding reduced to 78%"

I'm sure they have their "trade secrets" that employees aren't allowed to reveal, even if they're related to changes made in the patch.

If I remember correctly, the glitches at the launch of DA: O were horrific and made the game almost unplayable at times (even worse than the issues in DA2, which don't affect everyone). This doesn't mean that this state of "polish" is acceptable, but Bioware as a company is not getting worse... and is still far better than the majority of the game industry that releases completely broken games with startling regularity. Which saddens me.

Cheers,
Misterpinky

My game (DA:O) is STILL unplayable, as I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, and the damn game keeps crashing. DA2 on the other hand I have had no issues with at all. I havent even been able to play DA:A due to the crashing :(

I'm just happy that I upgraded to W7 64-bit after playing through Origins and Awakening. The game was... unstable, to be polite. It's sad that not everything gets fixed, but I suppose that's life. The vast majority of people who play the game are able to play it fine, it's just the minority that trolls the forums yelling and screaming about how they weren't getting the framerate they "deserved" on DX11 which also tends to cover up the legitimate complaints like, "Hey, my game doesn't work at all" that come from reasonable people.

Cheers,
Misterpinky

PS Yes, I've got the same DX11 issues as everybody else. No, I don't let it bother me. Just enjoy the game, people. If you've got a solid, custom or professionally made PC it'll run fine. Just because your computer is strange and reacts poorly with the game doesn't mean that Bioware is infested with Abominations. Whining to Bioware when you've got no idea what C++ even is doesn't make things go faster.

I've found that if you drink copious amounts of cider, the game works perfectly!

Well I assume it works, I don't remember a dammed thing what happened last night other than I was shouting "I am the champion!" whilst hanging upside down from a street lamp dressed in nothing but my underpants. But importantly in the logbook read out to the judge this morning by the policeman, I was telling him over and over that DA2 was "the beshtest game in the world" and anyone who says different "shall be purged by my bowels".

And who knew that modern prisons have net access? This is faster than my home connection!

I've only ever played Origins on Vista and 7 (both x64), and I've never had any serious technical issues.

Well... Awakening slows down after a while, due to memory leaks, but it takes long enough that I get some good playtime out of the game before I have to restart it.

Same here.

Though I do suffer from some memory leaks when playing DA2... Loading times will become slowly longer. It is hardly noticable from the start, but later on you'll start to see a difference.

Nothing comparable to DAO though.

However, the high res pack? no joy's, at all. Due to it being steam, the high res installer is failing to find whatever registry key its after.

Bioware, please pull yourselves together and pass whatever you need to along to the folks at steam so we can update via them? Or release a steam compatible installer?

Much obliged.

I have not tested this (as I have a retail version, rather than Steam) however I see no reason why it should not work... (unless there are registry entries that also needs to be added).

1) Download the High Res Textures EXE
2) Download and install 7-zip.
3) Right click the EXE -> 7-zip -> Open Archive
4) Double click on the $[34] folder
5) Single left click on the packages folder
6) Hit the Extract button
7) Across from "Copy to" click the "..." button and try browsing to something along the lines of the following:
64bit Windows: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age 2\\
32bit Windows: C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age 2\\
Note: These paths may not be quite correct, but are my best guesstimate based on other Steam games I have
8) Hit the OK button (twice, and wait while it extracts).

Start DA2, Options -> Video -> Tick "High-resolution Textures".

Hope this works for you!

Edit: Just realised dbankier said practically the same in fewer words below your post. :pinched:

I'm going to push as hard as I can to get as much information as I am legally allowed to divulge tomorrow. I apologize that it's April 1st; it didn't occur to me until yesterday :(

Oh, and we're (-7 UMT) here in Edmonton SO I don't want to see the typical 'OMG LIES' posts when it's saturday at midnight in your respective timezone.

How about just releasing the "news" a few hours earlier, just in case? Or today instead of April 1st of all days?
Just an idea... Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine what news you could present tomorrow that you can't present today.

Unless you actually publish the patch or at least a beta version tomorrow. Then it would make sense to say "ok, we're basically done, just need to wrap some things up so we should be able to release it tomorrow sometime". Sadly, I think that's just me getting my hopes up. =/

They should post a patch that fixes all manner of inconsequential things like Leandra's head tilt when talking to Gamlen or the color of Anders' stubble, and publish said patch tomorrow (without addressing any of the hot button issues, natch). Maybe do this as a marketing tie-in with a popcorn company, because you can't ask for better entertainment!

(Yes, I'm a bad dwarf.)

The fact is though until Luke gets the go ahead he can not release information about what the patch contains.

One of the many joys of working for a large company. ;) (Though in reality it's probably a good thing, because if something was mentioned and then it turned out that it was not done, people would get upset).

- Replaces Amell family crest with the Cerberus logo in Hawke's mansion.
- Replaces Carver's head with a Donkey head.
- Reduces damage reistance and character speed by 50%.

How could you let this happen to your poor brother?

Hawke -> Sarcastic: What are you blaming me? Merrill did it...

I've gone through DA:O and DA:A several times on my W7 64 bit with no problems.  No slow down memory leak issues or anything.  Maybe I'm just lucky.

If something crazy is in patch note other than bug fixes.

Don't worry, I'll preface by saying 'This is not an April Fools post' - you're welcome to just not believe it if you'd like. Unfortunately the update I'm waiting for happens to be an end of the week thing.

What the hell's the University of Management and Technology got to do with anything? GMT is the correct time on (and above, as recently confirmed by NASA and the folks on the Space Station) the Earth. Everything else is fiddlesticks!

Haha, good catch. I meant to write UTC and had GMT in my mind and combined them without noticing. Long days are long.
