Sorry if this has already been talked about on some Anders fan thread, but I didn't want to look through all that.

Before DA2 came out, I always thought Anders and Alistair looked/sounded very much alike. I think everyone did.
Then there was the whole confusion between Alistair's parentage between Origins and The Calling. Origins said he was the son of a servent girl, but the Calling said that Maric had a son with they Grey Warden Mage chick. They never said it was Alistair, everyone just assumed because Duncan said he'd watch over the boy, and Alistair and Duncan were close.

What if Anders was Maric and the Grey Warden's son? Gaider said on the forums that Anders isn't Andeers' real name - its a nickname, cos he's from the Anderfells. Which begs the question, why was he in a circle tower in Ferelden? But Weisshaupt Fortress is in the Anderfells, and that's where Grey Warden Mage chick's son was born (I really should look up her name)

Someone asked if he was Duncan's son with that random Circle mage he slept with at the beginning of The Calling and David Gaider responded that Anders was too old to be Duncan's child from that encounter.

Which, since that happens well before Maric/Fiona, means Anders is not their baby. Alistair totally is.

The problem with the theory that Alistair is Fiona's baby is that Loghain says Alistair was born while Rowan was still alive. He didn't hook up with Fiona until some time later - which means that there may be another heir to the throne of Ferelden out there that nobody knows about now Duncan is gone.

In any case, it seems that Anders' resemblance to Alistair is coincidental if Gaider's comment about his age is to be believed. (He frequently misleads us, but I don't recall him lying outright concerning a matter of lore.)

It would be nice if we ever got confirmations on how old some of these characters are. Cos I totally would think they're about the same age.

He's also said that any similarities between Anders and Alistair are purely coincidental.

As for Loghain, I figure he's making assumptions because why else would Maric hide a bastard if he wasn't born while Rowan was alive? I doubt Maric filled him in on his Orlesian elf mage loving ways (and for good reason).

I think its purely coincidental too. It would not make sense, after reading this:

I think the writers have said Anders' parents are NOT Maric, Fiona, Duncan, or Wynne. Which makes sense I guess since none of them are from the Anderfels.

I thought the word was that DA II was about "Wynne's son"? Or was that DA 3?

I never heard anything like that about any game.

I think Gaider's next book is about Wynne's son.

He was hinted at being in another DA book, here's the thread: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/5922643/1

Wynne's son is probably Cullen, who may have a major role in an expansion/DLC/DA3

Cullen as Wynne's son? Doesn't he go crazy and kill a bunch of apprentice mages in one of the Origin's epilogues? That would be really sad if he is.

Wait...did they ever say why Cullen got sent to Kirkwall instead of staying where he was in DA2? Maybe he already killed some mages? I might have missed the real reason or forgotten it since I haven't played DA2 since I got the Isabella bug of slow doom.

I know I have gotten him to say that he did something really horrible before coming (or being sent) to Kirkwall.  That he couldn't look the Ferelden mages in the eye without seeing all his dead friends.  So, yeah, I think he did the whole 'go nuts and killed mages' thing, but instead of being killed or imprisoned for it, he was sent elsewhere.

And made a Captain.

Hermmmm.

Cullen: Hello, my name is Cullen, i have been sent here from the circle of magi in Ferelden!
Meredith: Mhm, i see in your files that you went nuts and killed a bunch of mages?
Cullen: Uh, yeah about that...
Meredith: You're my new captain.

I think he was talking about his fellow templars who were killed by Uldred & co.
