On my first playthrough as a rogue on normal difficulty i gave upp after three tries and did the groupfight instead :P

On the second playthrough as a mage it was really easy though, just to keep away from him and throwing spells.

Yep me too. Looking back I guess I could have put it on casual, but that jerk was pig sticking me every moment he got and I was low on potions so I took them all at onece and did it the first try on hard. B)

I never even figured out how to get the 1v1 duel. Possibly because I told Isabela off (didn't do any quests, and when she asked I said no.which was slightly better than the original (and re-started) where I never encountered her at all).

But a Spirit Healer with full points in Spirit Healer, Creation and Arcane (and absolutely NO offensive magic) might have been fun....

I wiped some blood across the bridge of my nose and cast that spell that lets me rip him in two with my demon hands.

Oh, wait, you mean the game as actually sold…

What bugged me is the Qunari that asks you for the Qunari swords in Act 3...I would liked the Templars not let any of them enter into the city ever again.

That part confused me as well. However, being a fantasy world, "human" psychology might be different than real life psychology. I am sure most forum readers are aware of how  Japanese immigrants in America   were treated after Pearl Harbor. It is still interesting how no one chases out the remaining Qunari with pitchforks though.

I was playing Duelist Rogue the first time through and died twice, any attempt to "just fight him" got me slaughtered in seconds, on the third try I switched to bow (with no bow skills) and beat him, though it could have worked with the dagger as well. I basically just got in his face until he wound up to attack, and then dashed backwards until I was outside his range, and released a single arrow. His attack would miss, then he'd charge in and I'd repeat. I think ti would have worked just as well using the dagger lunge to move in and then backpeddle.

I couldn't get it using my two-hander warrior, I just couldn't deal enough damage to him between running for my life, he would always heal at a certain point, so I reloaded and just went for the free for all

miasmic flask/tar bomb/combustion grenade + assassinate/other rogue skills, dog for aggro, run around columns waiting for cooldowns, repeat until he's dead.

As a warrior I just ran at him and hacked pieces off of his face until he died, taking barely any damage in the process. But then, I did have about 40 odd Constitution.

As a rogue I summoned dog and when the Arishok would try to attack me, I used Evade. Then when he did his charging attack, I either used Evade or ran out of the way and attacked him using Fog to slow him down then Mark of Death,Backstab,Miasmic Flask, Rush,Twin Fangs, and regular attacks followed by Explosive Strike for extra damage. In between I ran around the pillars, used Stamina and Health potions.Rinse and repeat.

As a Primal/Force spec mage, minoring in Ice/Spirit spells, I found it most effective to use the Ice spells to slow him, the just beat the **** out of him with damage spells, then when he sped up, CoC, and he's a snail, then use Gravitic ring, and he pretty much doesn't move for about 20 seconds. The fight was over in under 2 min

Impressive... Still, nothong beats fighting up in his face for 3 min... the adrenaline! xD

As a swashbuckling duelist rogue, dueling the Arishok for the life of my pirate queen...was quite honestly, the entire moment I was designed for. (Though I didn't realize that til the moment it happened.)

I largely handled this like a bullfight. A technique I mastered when fighting the Ogre in the opening. Just wait until he's committed to the charge then teleport behind him just before he hit. Making sure of course, there was a wall, pillar or other Quinari behind me.

Was truly priceless when he bowled his own people over trying to get me. I couldn't hit them but he could. Image IPB

Its also worth mentioning that all Quinari, especially the Arishok, are exceptionally vulnerable to nature damage. Poisoning your weapon shortens the fight drastically, even if you aren't a rogue. (even works on Mage staves) Use the damage poison, and debuff him with Tar bombs to slow him down. Fight gets much easier and faster.

As a mage, I just kept freezing, paralyzing him and slowing him down and chugging potions, it took ages but I did it.

As a 2H warrior... honestly after he started healing himself, I just said "screw it" and set the difficulty to casual <_<

I tried that with a rogue and poison didn't help much.  Cold spells from the mage were far more effective.

I beat him as a Mage by,

1. Summon Mabari to annoy him.

2. Force Mage's Gravatic Ring keeps him from moving around a lot.

3. Lightning, Firestorm, Cone of Cold, Winters Grasp, Fireball, etc to damage him while he was stuck.

4. When he was unstuck, avoid charging, wait until Gravatic Ring cooled down, slowed him and repeated step 3.

Mark, Assassinate,Twin Fangs, avoided his attacks in order to survive (Yeah, that sidestep thing). i think that he falled on the second assassinate (40s cooldown?)

I was using poison and that potion that inceases damage.

My tactic for all classes is very simple: use all offensive abilities until i run out of stamina, then attack normally until i'm at half health, then run around the two pillars, screaming, until my abilities recharge, then drink a health and stamina potion and repeat the process.

Dosen't look very heroic, but gets the job done.

As a warrior, run around in circle and occasionally stun Arishok with pommel blows.

As a mage, run around in circle and occasionally freeze him with cold spells.

I only ever did it on my Sword n Board Warrior.  Potions & thats bout it.

I just stood toe to toe with him, drank potions & poke poke poke, pommel strike, poke poke poke, pommel strike, etc...

It was a looooooooong fight, safe fight, but long fight.
