I've been playing RPG's for as long as I can remember, that not being the point.

I think you just need to realize that RPG's are becoming popular.  This is a old complaint about anyone who feels they belong to any sort of sub culture that becomes over saturated by what they feel aren't true fans, or whatever you want to call them.

Well like I said earlier, Bioware is now on the radar by all the new players in RPG's.  As much as a lot of biowares fans hate it, Mass Effect put them on the radar.

Also, Star Wars:  The Old Republic is doing the exact same thing but on a much larger scale.  It's appeal to WoW players is up there.

I don't think Bioware is going to implement any gameplay changes since that can be done by the modding community.

It's very similar in a multitude of ways, yes. But that's no justification for developing a **** community. WoW's full of kiddies for its own reasons, I always assumed the BioWare community was a bit more mature.

For overwhelming evidence to the contrary, I direct you to a great deal of threads directly beneath (and, by the time I'm done writing this, above) this one.

For more evidence, for that matter, I direct you to a thread that takes terms (and childish behavior) that existed long, long before that game ever did, erroneously assumes that they belong solely to one specific part of one specific community, and then imprudently lumps "all that stuff I don't like" in with "that game I don't like". I'm fairly certain there's a thread like that here somewhere...

Do you realize that people were theorycrafting the best character builds in CRPGs long before WoW existed? Yes, even the word "theorycraft" was in use before that game became popular. For as much as you complain about the "WoW community" you kinda seem like one of the newbs that game is responsible for introducing to RPGs.

More so that people from the era of gaming/RPG experience feel like they need to impose their greatness on the world. I've been playing RPG's for as long as I can remember, that not being the point. Point is, why are people theorycrafting and getting into pissing matches about "Oh I can clear Nightmare solo as a Rogue, you must be terrible or not playing with X, Y, Z spells or party compositions."

Just let people play the ****ing single-player game in peace, and if they have a question or are looking for constructive discussion then provide it. It's the fact that you have to sift through the pages of ***holes stroking their massive DA:O hard-ons to get decent information (for those who are struggling/beginners) drives me absolutely mad.

I just don't read threads that don't interest me...problem solved.

As for the genre and the audience it caters to; it's definitely changing with the times.  I don't mind it however, as it's not about what KIND of rpg'er someone is; it's excitement over there being ONE MORE rpg gamer in what used to be an ultra niche market.

It takes all kinds of gamers to play games and for every gamer that went and bought this title; they supported the efforts of  a great development company like Bioware.  Instead of polarizing and looking at what makes us different and what group does what; perhaps we should be celebrating what we have in common:

Great RPG's.

It's great that more people want to play games like this. It means companies will continue to make games like this. In my opinion, elitism is just as unwelcome as rude posts, bad spelling and tantrums.

Wow I did not expect to see a "go away WoW kiddies" thread here since the damn game isn't even online. Is there no end to these kind of threads? or is it that no one is educated enough on about the mmorpg community to know that everything didn't start in WoW including terms.... It's one of the reasons why I'm taking a long break from MMORPG's but I guess as long as it has a forum and RPG in the game then there will always be a WoW thread... >_>

I find it quite amusing too when the people who actually make these threads are basically the exact same kiddies from WoW in attitude and maturity telling them to go away..

I can understand not wanting a crappy forum community, and I agree. But, have you noticed anything else about Dragon Age Origins that seems a bit like WoW aside from the community? I did, and I was shocked.

<blink><blink> You have a point...
Both games have warriors who use...SWORDS!  And have...ARMOR!
Both games have a rogue class which is sneaky and backstabs!
Both have humans, elves and dwarves!
Both have good v evil!
Both have mages!
And the most damning evidence of all....Both are played on the computer!!!

OH...MY...GOD!!!  It must be a CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!

Or you could all go back and read the two pages again and actually comprehend what has been written. Concerns of community/forum turning into what is very similar to a World of Warcraft forum community, not unusual for an MMORPG.

Whining about game rebalance and this and that in a singe-player game with 3 classes, 12 Specializations and a difficulty slider is absolutely ludacris.

Informing someone of how terribly awful they are at this game because they are having issues with the difficulty/learning curve is also ludacris. This is currently what most threads on this forum relating to the game mechanics consist of...

All oddly reminiscent of an individual performance raid game/environment  aka Everquest/Everquest II/World of Warcraft/Eve/etc..

No, I guess this isn't that unusual in singleplayer games either.

Hey, some people enjoy organizing games into scientific and logical boxes. You're not one of them. Quit whining. :)

Well unfortunately you are helping promote that type of community as some people have already pointed out.  There have been some legitimate posts made within this thread that promoted a debate and not a finger pointing session, but you have chosen to ignore those posts and respond to the ones that you deem threatening.

I'm out, this debate isn't progressing in anyway.

What does the difficulty slider do to remedy things?

I think it's an example of how unlike MMOs this game is. Ultimately, though, does it matter? It's still just someone getting mad because other people don't have the same reaction to the game as he does, then creating a negative and ultimately unproductive thread complaining about the negative and unproductive threads that preceded his.

Please, the old roleplay gamers that grew up with games like Tibia or Ultima Online know whats going on, we know that since WoW came it did hurt a lot to the MMO community, filling it with unpleasant immature and h4x0rz idiots, but please, we know it already, stop making posts like this, or comparing things to WoW... theres nothing that we can do about it...

...please.
