They shouldn't do a film IMO.

For the record, this would be my first choice as well.

Hey man, not so!  There was Doom!  Okay, bad example. How about Wing Commander? No... nevermind, also bad. Um... Hitman? No, that blew chunks. Max Payne!  Uh, no... also bad. Resident Evil? Mmm... borderline. Hardly great cinema, but offering enough fluff and fun as the source material, right? Maybe? Come on, I'm tryin' here. Far Cry? No, nevermind, it was a Uwe Boll movie... says it all right there. Lara Croft wasn't too bad though, was it? Huh?

 :crying:

Excuse me while I go cry. Thanks for ruining my day.

I don't see the big deal in having a movie about shepard... so maybe YOUR choices wouldn't get picked... big deal... boo hoo. A movie with the reapers would be best.

Pass. I don't mind that it's abut the First Contact Wars, in fact, it's a very smart move. But not having Bioware oversee the story while the EA suits pull the strings absolutely destroys this movie.

I'll see this movie only for the lulz, but the two top devs being the producers.... that gives me hope. as long as Mac Walters stays the hell away!

SuperG no offence but you're a ******, I'm not gonna bother posting a rebuttal to your claims since it's all been said.

Regardless, if they do this right, portray this faithfully to the series...then maybe...maybe it might work out

On the other hand, who are we ****ing kidding, they can't even do a comic about it.

I'm actually glad they won't bother w/ Shep's story. Hell, when I look at the game trailers, I say, "That's not my Shep." Still, the writer and producer do not inspire confidence.

The only problem is, this movie will be about Humanity discovering the Prothean ruins, and coming into contact with the Turians... and Commander Shepard will be the hero. Despite him only being born some 60 years later... You heard it here first.

You are right... but on the other side, they've chosen a good argument to develop and there isn't any mention of Uwe Boll
So there's still hope

I guess....

So they won't butcher ME1's plot? YAY!

I will only be pleased if they take the "they're actually people like us" route, or at least drop the "herp derp look alien bad guys" bullsh*t.

This. A thousand times this.

Prothean ruins on Mars were discovered in 2148, FCW was in 2157. Shepard was born in 2154.

I liked Iron Man and I Am Legend, and the fact that it's about the First Contact Wars and not anything game-related, I'm actually looking forward to it.

Let's hope we finally get a game->movie that works.

Doing a movie about the first contact war, awesome...but with what youre telling me...I hope they dont make it TOO cheesy, I dont like a lot of cheese with my movies. But, it should be good since it will be introducing the mass effect universe in a way that the regular non gaming joe can understand :P.

I also know the route a lot of games to movies are taking and I thought House Of The Dead was alright, lots of guns n zombais :3, tho I cried when the asian girl died...I love asian girls :/

Mass Effect the movie will, in fact, NOT follow the game's story about Saren and the Reapers. Here's the official summary as written by the film's producers:

"Mankind discovers ancient alien technology that enables faster than light travel. Using stored coordinates, mankind stumbles on a hostile alien race know as the Turians."

For those who may be unaware, this is the back-story to Mass Effect (the game) also known as the 'First Contact Wars'. It goes over the discovery of Prothean ruins on Mars, which jumps humanity's technology forward 200 years and allows FTL travel. The first race they come across is the Turians, which sparks a massive war. This happens roughly 50 years before the events with Commander Shepard. Whether or not he/she is even part of the story is up for speculation. By all accounts, he/she wouldn't even be born.

Mark Protosevich is writing the screenplay. He wrote I Am Legend, and worked on Thor, among other films. I am not certain he is the best choice. Avi Arad is a credited producer, who worked on Iron Man, Spider Man 1 & 2, Ghost Rider, and other generic films. Take that as you will.

It should be known that Ray Muzkya is not credited as a producer, and thus there is no oversight by Bioware indicated in this film. EA has taken a producer role, seeing as they hold the rights to the Mass Effect brand, and it's likely that a great deal of source material will be warped to appeal to a wide audience. This includes, but is not limited to, a likely PG-13 rating. Currently the film is still being scripted, so casting and a choice for director is still unknown.

Needless to say I am disappointed. This is nothing more then a weak move to cash in on the title without having to dedicate to a trilogy of films. Low budget, cheesy actors, cheesy writing and an A-typical Hollywood mentality is exactly what I expect out of this. If they fail to deliver, don't expect any others.

I have to admit that is pretty clever.

Does anyone here besides Supr G have a IMDBPro account to check this for themselves?

Just saying, in some parts of the world it's already April 1st and it's funny that this information comes out today. I don't know where Supr G lives, but I can't help but feel you've just trolled 5 pages of people, but I can't confirm, because I'm not on IMDBPro.

It's still the 31st here... sadly no joke, but it would be a damn good one I think.

There's no point whining about the movie at this point, so just be glad it will have an original plot, and not just be a movie adaption of the games.

The First Contact War was pretty short. Not sure that it will make for a suitably epic experience. Also, Humanity wasn't integrated into galactic civilization until after the war, so if the movie ends with the peace treaty quite a bit of cool stuff will be left out.
