To be fair Turians were pretty monstrous during the first contact war. They punished a child for violating a rule they had no idea existed, and gave punishment for a system they didn't know they were a part of.

The Turians are an Empire, and it has conquered species in the past. They were ruthless during the first contact war, taking out entire blocks to "take out a squad." Civilians were suffering, food was scarce. It was brutal, which is why shanxi surrendered in the first place.

I am interested to see which perspective the movie is from though. I do hope the Turians get their fair shake, but considering what they done they WILL be the badguy.

true I just hope the movie is well written

Hmm the first contact war might make for a good film actully OP.

And where was it ever stated they were aiming for a hollywood blockbuster? Many games gone movie do this.

I agree, it would make an awesome film. Lots of space battle and epicness!

So who would be a good General Williams if it does cover the First Contact War?

Thank GOD it's not following Shepard. That's all I can say.

EDIT: Hold up... there's still a minute chance it could... But Hollywood isn't THAT stupid... Is it?

I'm glad for this. I think is a good Idea to make the first book a movies but this is just as good. If they tried to make thefirstgame a movie, it would be like putting a squre peg in a round hole.

This has been up on IMDBpro for a while now. And we're only just now realizing it? And from what I gather, IMDB is a user-edited website, so for all I know some First Contact War-fan just put this up because he/she didn't want Shepard. IMDB also said Matthew Fox for Shepard. Fox said he'd never been approached for any such role. I don't buy this.

Call me a heretic if you like, but I actually hoped the movie was based on the beginning of Mass Effect, discovery of space, and etc, instead of reapers. But this sounds like its gonna be how PoP was, with Jake Gyllenhaal and disney crap, but as long as it's not like Uncharted the movie, oh god they are gonna mess that one up bad. Guess we will have to give it a chance...

I'm not buying that film description at all, whether it's on IMDBPro or not. It may as well be the work of someone who was bored and just put something random as a description.

So they won't butcher ME1's plot? YAY!

But they'll butcher the First Contact War again, throwing the turians into "ebul bad dewds" as if Evolution wasn't enough? GODF*CKINGDAMMIT.

I will only be pleased if they take the "they're actually people like us" route, or at least drop the "herp derp look alien bad guys" bullsh*t.

Was it Mark Protosevich's decision to change the ending of I Am Legend? If so, i hate him and he completely ruined the film.

Probably not. The original ending makes more sense, but I can totally see how some dumb producer said "make it a hero death and leave the zombies stupid or the audience will be confused".

I don't get the OP... his main argument is pretty much the audience not knowing who Shepard is... so why not accept The FCW being a good idea? And spawning all kinds of soilless preconceptions like this movie being a "cash-in" or that "we've seen it a thousand times" stand as zero arguments to me. We have NOTHING to speculate on. A three-word plot description, you say? Oh, sorry then.

The sad news is that Bioware has no hand and ZERO involvment in the movie production.
At the beginning they affirm that the 2 doc & C.H. would have acted as producers in order to check the respect of the source material.

Now, if this will be confirmed, EA that will produce the movie with no involvement for BiowEA staff...

It is an allarming confirmation... EA bought Bioware, and their franchise.. And want to cash on them no matter what.

We already have seen what BiowEA has done with ME2 & DA2...
But the worse will not ended with ME3 I fear...
ME multiplayer? ME space fight? ME romace encounters? ME FPS?

it's a long way from being made, yet - a helluva lot of things can change. without shepard though it's not mass effect, just another sci-fi film. just remaking most of the first game would make an epic film.

Well because this is a video game based movie, I ain't had real high hopes because well... pretty much every video game based movie is "meh" at best. Of course some are real bad, but then there have been a few decent ones. That said I'm not expecting a Mass Effect movie to be the next Matrix or anything like that. I don't expect it to be super amazing, but I suspect it will be a decent flick. I'm sure most of the snobby film critics will bash it as being a generic Sci-Fi movie.

What has me most hopeful is they did decide to go the "prequel" route and are going to feature the First Contact War. I always thought that backstory would lend it self well to a movie. So that's good news in my book.

Mark Protosevich doesn't seem a horrible a choice. I thought "I am Legend" was a pretty good film. Be interesting to see how he handles Mass Effect, but I think he'll do okay.

Avi Arad has produced a lot of comic based movies. True not all of them great but Iron Man, X-Men, Spiderman were all pretty good movies by my standards. I enjoy watching them anyway which is what should really count.

All thing considered I'm somewhat optimistic for this movie now. And even if it does suck, well no biggie cause it doesn't involve Shepard or that part of the ME story.

As much as I'd like to believe this information is true I simply wont believe it until Bioware or Legendary officially states that it'll be about the first contact war.

I guess thats just my inner skeptic talking.

That is great news.
I was talking about how they probably wouldn't use any part of the trilogy for the movie.
That way they won't have to meet any expectations from the fans concerning the plot and characters of the games.

Also it gives the writer and director alot more space (no pun intended) for a movie.

However Im not pleased with the choice of writer and producer, horrible, horrible stuff.
I can only Imagine the team at Bioware crying right now.

If this ME movie is true, then Bioware SERIOUSLY needs to put their voice into all this or at least DEMAND that someone more experienced with the ME story should oversee the movie - EA horrificly screwed up Westwood's C&C, Hollywood royally destroyed Hitman & Dragon Ball, if Bioware has no say in this matter, then the movie will DESTROY ME's reputation...

EA WTF is wrong with you????!!!
