Nightmare only or every difficulty? His special attack stuns himself and the adds too.
As for the tactics, one should really concentrate on them adds in this fights, or could be overrun by shadows and rage demons.

OK small room, he charges you, that vortex thing he does, and his adds.....does anybody have his weaknesses, or a strategy? I had me (2hw) Merril, Varic, and Anders. I tried to run to the opposite side of the room and pepper him from afar and have my guy occupy him. I got the demon to half health when it all went south. Playing on hard. This is tough.
The battle is hard untill you understand the right strategy. I made it with me (Mage Hawke specialized in Elemental, Force, Entropy and Spirit), Varric, Isabella and Aveline.
I keep Aveline against him all the time trying allways to keep his attention high. The other charachters attacked him too (Isabella from the back with hit and run tactics), but I focused those 3 char on the adds when they appeared trying to kill them as soon as I can (while Aveline would use Stonewall in those situations). And then returing to Hybris. As soon as he changed colors and begin to cast a spell, I would cast Dispel Magic to debuff him: that spell worked wonders, even to free Aveline from Crushing Prison. As far as I can say, he is very weak toward Spirit Magic (I believe even electricity but I never tested it). Using that strategy, it became an easier battle and I have just to drink a couple of potion.

All difficulties just have your ranged guys over the other end of the room and your PC as the warrior run in a direction that will put him in it. Pick off all the adds and you still have time to wail on him for a while while he's stuck. (Just did it 20mins or so ago on my nightmare playthrough first go

I was just wondering if friendly fire for hostiles works only on Nightmare or not.
I believe its all difficulties however there is only a few abilities that do. That zone from hybris and the ogres charge are the only ones I've directly noticed

But I digress, honest vids are better than the fabricated "lucky shots only" ones. This was just a random I did as I played around while setting up my first-time ever rec. Only now two weeks later did I realise there's something called Windows Live Movie Maker, which allowed me to pack 10 gigs and 3 files into 400 megs so I could actually post it somewhere.
I used console for adding money on that run (as evidenced by the overabundance of potions, didn't use too many tho), otherwise it should be legit.

15 minutes or so, bound to get boring. But as said, just drop the adds and keep out of the AoE and even with soddy performance like that you'll be alright.

Back to topic, his vicious circle can affect other enemies and even himself. He will also always cast it on party member's position. If you keep your party bunched together, say 15 yards from the room's corner, you can move them into the corner meaning that every enemy that will follow them will be caught and paralyzed. you can be creative and use this sort of tactic to lure enemies into that paralyzing ring.
