This thread cracks me up!!!

OP thinks that Arrival was weaksauce and uses that as the basis for an argument to include MP in ME3? How are those two things even related!?!?!

Why on earth would BioWare risk incorporating MP in ME3 just to go head to head with GOW3, the third game in a franchise that features MP as a core gameplay mechanic?

The defining feature of the Mass Effect series is the ability for players to choose their characters' destiny (within predefined boundaries of course, but still).

I don't see how multiplayer could possibly enhance what is supposed to be an individual's unique gaming experience.

OP also said something very similar in another thread FWIW. :)

Mass Effect released at the same time when HALO 3 and CALL OF DUTY 4 came out.
Also, ME was only a Xbox exclusive.
And here we are now... Two of the most popular games on the market didn't bring ME down. So you think GOW3 and Skyrim might be any different?

Nice try OP. ;P

Gears of War is a garbage and barely worth the $20 I spent to get it off the used rack at Gamestop.

Mass Effect 3 doesn't really need to compete with them big-bwoys, don't you think? It's a completely different experience in a completely different genre. Whoever likes GoW-style gaming will go for GoW3 or CoD or whatever's out there, and people like us who enjoy single-player immersion gaming will go for ME3 or DA2/3, etc. And yes, while it's true that ME3 has a risk of not selling as much as the multiplayer dreadnoughts, I believe it has garnered enough of a reputation and loyal following (well-earned by the countless 72+ hours gamers logged into this wonderful game) to survive in a degenerating video-game market (degenerating in purpose and experience, not economics).

As well, from personal experience, I will get ME3 when it appears, and I reckon at least 20 friends of mine--all seasoned veterans of the ME experience--will jump for the game as well. That's about $1460 worth in Bioware's pocket, and I'm sure ME3 will sell more than 21 copies. ;)

Everyone know that arrival was a bigger fail than witch hunt. Everyone also know that in 011 straight up single player games dont stand no chance against the big bwoys.

Gears 3 is prone to sell 5 million copies its first week just off its epic multiplayer and in this recession people only got money to buy 1 or 2 games every 6 months.  Trust that most PS3 users can care less about a Mass effect 3 so hopefully Bioware aint too worried about wahat the JohnnyComeLatelys think.  Mass Effect 3s success will rely on whether X Box users wanna put 60 dollars behind it and with gears 3 coming i doubt any xbox user is gonna care about ME 3 if multiplayer is absent.

I don't know that, and well, don't that fact destroy the entire argument, since the premise it's building upon is proved to be false?

Before I say anything else, I need to get this off my chest.

BAAAAAAA-hahahahahahahahaha!

Hoo... Man, this thread was hilarious. Seriously. You can practically taste the epic.

Ha. Now, on to Bwusiness.

Point 1: Any time you make any kind of statement like "Everyone agrees" or "Everyone knows", you're wrong. No, don't argue. Don't reach for that keyboard. You're just wrong. There is no single issue on the planet on which everyone agrees. So right off the bat you fail.

Point 2: As a life-long gamer, I can say without prevarication that I would sooner deep-throat a Krogan than play Gears of Generic Space Marine 3. Seriously. Right to the quad. I'd even swallow. I hate Gears of We Totally Didn't Rip Off Aliens 3 that much. And I'm not alone.

Point 3: Epic multiplayer?

...

"EPIC MULTIPLAYER"?

BWAAAAAAA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Oh man... that's funnier than Sinbad.

Hoo.

Point 4: I know this is the internet, but seriously dude, take an english class or something. The way you write, you'd think that the only Grammar you know is named Kelsey.

In the immortal words of Sten: "NO."  No Bioware DLC has ever been (or, hopefully, will ever be) as much of a fail as Witch Hunt - the DLC that recycled all its locations, poached its single unique creature from DA2, and gave us just one brief, unsatisfying conversation with the character around which it supposedly revolved which consisted of nothing apart from an advert for DA2 for anyone who didn't play a Morrigan-romancing Warden (including, you know, everyone playing a female Warden).  It was also astonishingly buggy on release, but I forgive that due to Bioware's speed in getting it patched.

Arrival, by contrast, had numerous new locations (with lots of lovely new textures), a new soundtrack, multiple conversations with Hackett, and several gameplay innovations (for ME2, not in general).  Sure, it wasn't LotSB, but it cost fewer points than LotSB.  It packed much more value than Witch Hunt.

You're the only person I've heard say something bad about Arrival.

Although I strongly disagree with everyone who claims that Witch Hunt is the worst piece of BW DLC ever.  That title goes to Golems of Amgarrak.  Oh man that was **** on a stick.

I think Arrival was amazing, however short it may be.

Quality > Quantity IMO.

Well I was going to write a lengthy response to the OP... but then I got tired and realized his ill conceived post / "thought" wasn't worth the effort.

Instead, I'll let this lady eloquently state my thought on the OP.

Umm, 'Lindis, wouldn't the correct phrasing actually be, "In the immortal word of Sten: NO."? ;) :D B)

Other than that, I agree with you regarding your appraisal of Arrival. My only playthrough so far was marred at the end by video failure unfortunately, but that's because my card died, not because of Bioware. I look forward to trying it again once I get my machine back up in running.

Sorry your arguement is flawed as it's based on the fact that arrival wasn't a great dlc. Granted its not excellent but its not as horrific as witch hunt . Overall its quite good and sets up ME3. Also 1 or 2 games every 6 months? I know its a recession but thats stupid. Im gettin deus ex, xcom, skyrim, me3, new vegas dlc and maybe I repeat MAYBE rage and gears and most of them are out within late Q2/Q3.

i liked Arrival as well

i thought it paid homage to ME1 in so many ways, and made for an interesting prologue/setup for ME3 (Arrival possibly being Shepard's "Eden Prime" incident)

and to be honest i'm not getting the Gears 3 hype... Vanquish already destroyed my love for the previous 2 Gears games, and even Mass Effect 2 was more fun from a shooter perspective than Gears 1 and 2 were... and in the case of "epic shooters" this year nothing tops Crysis 2

i might get Uncharted 3, but that's about it for shooters next fall

It sounds like you think every xbox user likes the Gears Of Wars series...And this is just your opinion, I dont think that there is a lot of other people out there with the same opinion. Just beacuse a great game comes out, doesn't mean people wont buy more games...
