So, as the title says, what are your favourite runes for the different classes available to the PC, and also for your party companions? (All Grandmaster of course, even doubles!)

Rogue?  Mine are (so far, need suggestions though for off-hand weapon): Paralyze, Slow, Elemental dmg (Lightning atm), thinking of switching in maybe the Hale (Phys. Res.)

Alistair?  Phys. Res., Spell Res., Elemental dmg, though not sure how many slots the weapons I'll give will have (also, can anyone suggest a great longsword? Starfang?  Or could/should I give him the Veshaille?)

Sten & Oghren (both as dd's not tanks)?  I'm at a loss here...  :(  Paralyze?  Slow?  Elemental dmg?  Resists?

I wish Dog could be "enchanted" with runes, but I guess that would seriously tip the tables in his favour for dmg haha

Also, what are your favourite weapons for everyone?  :)

Rogue - MH use elemental runes, maybe a paralyse if you are doing enough damage (which you should be) . OH go for Hale and Dweomer as when backstabbing it doesnt use the elemental runes from the offhand for some reason.

Alistair - Spell Resist, give him templar armor and some more SR items and he will be a total magekiller, maybe a paralyse for CC. Starfang and the Veshialle are the best one handers in the game, so both are a good choice. Its personal preference though.

Sten and Oghren - Depends how you are playing your 2 hander. If you have 45% attack speed increase then you wont really be using skills so elemental/paralyse runes can work, if you are using skills then resists or + undead/darkspawn damage are both good choices

That would be cool, but Overpower is excellent so he doesn't *really* need buffing haha

Weapons
Rogue - Veshialle/Roses Thorn for str build, Roses thorn/Fang for backstabber
Warrior - Chasind Great Maul for 2 hander, Starfang for S/S, Roses thorn and Fang for DW dex build
Mage - Staff of the Magister Lord or Final Reason

Never thought I'd like Silverite Runes since they are fairly situational - but 2 Grandmaster Runes give +20 true damage on darkspawn.
Found a fairly good combination for a 2-Handed Tank or even 2H DPS:
- Ageless (i fixed it via Toolset to have the 2 runeslots that it should have) with 2x Grandmaster Silverite Runes for darkspawn killing purposes (duh!)
- Yusaris (I dont like the looks of battleaxes or mauls - especially if worn by an elven heroine) with spell resist for killing everything else

Funny enough, the damage of the runes on Ageless seem to tick twice a hit. If I hit an enemy I see 4 numbers floating up: the normal base damage, +24 (for Ageless +4 bonus and the +20 runes), and two +10's.

Note that Yusaris is just an example and my personal preference. As said, I dont like those big toy hammers and battleaxes are kinda meh. Sten's sword looks sharp, but oh well it is his - and Ser Cauthrien's sword only comes very late into the game.

What do you think about Starfang (as a GS), the Nug Crusher, Duncan's Sword, or Maric's Blade? Maric's Blade + Cailan's Shield gives you a bonus to dmg and Stamina regen, and has nice dmg. Duncan's Sword seems nice for a DW Swd/Dag Rogue, coupled with the Dead Thaig Shanker, you get a nice bump to CUN (+3 and +5), though you lose the nice bonus of +30% crit/bs dmg from the Rose... While I was initially planning a DW Dag/Dag Rogue, Duncan's Sword seems like a great MH weapon for a CUN Rogue.

I suppose the Slow rune isn't really useful, since it only works on their movement speed, not attack speed (which would've been nice!). Is there a particular element that appears more through the reat of the game (from the main four paths/quests on), or an element that does more dmg? I've noticed fire seems to be the biggest enemy element, follower by cold, and I think only one lightning so far; is this the pattern, meaning should I choose Lightning and cold for fewer resists? Though, don't darkspawn take more dmg from fire, or is that just in my imagination? lol I also like the look of my weapon with electricity coursing all over it :)

I like the Yusaris and Ageless, though as you point out the lack of runes on the Ageless is rather annoying, and on console you can't fix that :/

Starfang is one of the best weapon's in the game, due to it being T8.
Nug Crusher isn't all that good, are you saying it because you don't have CGM?
dag/dag will outdamage a sword build any day, why no Rose's Thorn? It's the best weapon in the game. There are better longsword's than Duncan's also.

I would say go with lightning or cold, fire doesn't do more damage to Darkspawn lol. It depends on how good the rune is.

There are plenty of better weapon's than Yusaris and Ageless, they are very situational weapons - with Ageless im pretty sure "weaken's nearby darkspawn" does nothing, there was a discussion and it is no timplemented anywhere in the toolset. It doesn't increase threat/hostility. If it did what it said it did it would be good. Yusaris is abviously only really good when fighting dragons, if not CGM, Starfang and Dragonbone Cleaver are all better unfortunately.

As for Ageless:
- try selling it to a merchant, save and keep reloading until the weapon appears to have runeslots, buy it back. Never really tried it myself, but I've read it could help.

- I have a mod installed that implements the "weakens darkspawn" feature. It reduces attack and defense of nearby darkspawn by 5.

And since I dont play any DLCs other than Shale's, I dont have the other uber weapons. Yusaris is fine, 2 runeslots, fire resis, looks good.

I'd suggest using Lighting Runes if you really want to buy Grandmaster's. I dont think there are any enemies that are highly resitant to electric damage - unlike cold (undeads) or fire (dragons, rage demons).

Yeah, Starfang is nice, though for Alistair I prefer Maric's Blade and Cailan's Shield, as the combo gives you a nice bonus.  :)  And just to be corny, for his alt weapon I'll have Duncan's Sword and Duncan's Shield (well, most likely Fade Wall, though I like how the names match better lol).  Fade Wall is nice, but imo, at least before testing it for myself, Cailan's Shield > Fade Wall.  That's just imo.

As for the Rose's Thorn, I know tests have been done to calculate dmg and all that, though I did a little one of my own, and Rose + Duncan's Dagger did more dmg and was noticeably faster than Duncan's Sword + Rose.  I was thinking of Duncan's Sword for the bonus it gives to CUN, and whether it would be a big enough bonus to be noticeable through my Lethality.  It wasn't.  Now just to see how the Dad Thaig Shanker stacks up to Duncan's Dag.

I'm never sure if I simply play slowly, or what it is, but I always take a long time to get three of the main quests done to open the second tier shops all around Ferelden, so no, I don't have the CGM *yet*.  And yes, after looking at it's stats and whatnot, it clearly takes the cake.  And probably smashes it to smithereens...  I just need more GM Runes...

And after all that fuss, I'll probably end up taking "Dog" along with me instead of Sten (Oghren just doesn't cut it imo).  I still think you should be able to enchant Dog's collar or paint with one rune lol  After all, it is "equipment"...

I'd still take Starfang/Fade Wall over them, but as you said, you personally prefer Maric's, which is all that matters. The reason I prefer it is because i dont feel i need any more stam/health regen, whereas the Starfang improves atk/def/dam/ap, and the fade wall is a great shield. IMO :P

If I were you I would install the Edge dlc, its the best dagger in the game if you cant get Fang:

Yeah it does, took me about 20 hours to get the shop open. You will also be able to get The Felon's Coat, which is absolutely amazing armour for rogues/dps warriors. GM runes can be a pain to get, there arent that many of them unfortunately.
