If I am becoming incredibly irate by the Revenant's fail accuracy, I switch to the Mattock or the Geth Pulse Rifle.

Otherwise, I stick with the Revenant.  

I love the Revvy vs. boss fights. Does less damage than the Mattock, but way way easier on the fingers / chi expenditure.   <-- Sometimes we gotta take care of our spiritual energy as well!

Also, accuracy isn't an issue when gargantuan hit boxes are involved

That was indeed the point I was attempting to indirectly convey. Everyone knows accuracy as applied to the context of ME2 means the ability to hit relatively small targets like Collectors, Salarians, Asari, Humans, and so forth.

The Avenger is my favorite assault rifle. I spend a lot of time playing soldier and I still love using the Avenger. It's like THE assault rifle of Mass Effect. I love the aesthetic of it and the full auto capability, wish it was a bit stronger though, it's only a starting weapon so I understand why it isn't.

For my first Soldier run (pre-Mattock), I switched to the Vindicator as soon as I got it and never looked back. For my second Soldier run (post-Mattock), I switched to the Mattock as soon as I got it and never looked back, except once when I was testing Concussive Shot and Inferno Grenade on Insanity.

I have an Engineer build and an Adept build that took Assault Rifle training, and I used the Avenger a couple of times with them, but mostly on the Reaper IFF mission where it would perform better then any of my SMGs. The Avenger is good for that mission since you face a lot of husks so you need a gun that: performs better against armor, has a lot of ammo, and can fire a lot of bullets quickly.

Although for my Engineer, my Incineration Blast plus Mordin's Full Cryo Blast performed even better, at least until the Scion's shockwave attack knocked Mordin out of the battle. Then it was just me and my Avenger.

 I'm currently on my third Infiltrator playthrough, and picked up assault rifle training for the Mattock.  Never tried the Avenger, though.  I prefer semi-auto.
