Warning this is a long post, all apologies.

I’ve been thinking about ME3’s intro and how it will likely include the much talked about Trial of Shepard.
I’ve come up with a scenario for how the whole thing might go down that I wanted to run by fellow fans

Like others I assume that the trial will occur at the beginning of the game.  The trial will likely
serve as the prologue of ME3 much like Eden Prime, or everything leading up to Freedom’s Progress  for ME1 and ME2 respectively.

ME2 broke it’s intro into 3 major segments:  The destruction of the Normandy, The escape from the Project Lazarus base, and the investigation of Freedom’s progress.  I think ME3’s intro might have a similar structure as the intro from ME2.  In ME3’s case I think it will break down along the lines of:  Taking Shepard in, the trial, and escape from the Sol system.

ME3 could easily establish the events of Arrival for those who have not played the DLC with the now traditional text summary that plays before the games intro.  The text can
make mention of Shepard destroying the human reaper, and delaying the Reaper fleet at the cost of 300,000 Batarian lives. Finally the text can establish what Shepard has been doing in the time between games, my guess finding a way to fight/further delay the Reapers.

My idea is that the game will start with Shepard investigating the old Mass Relay weapon responsible for killing the Derelict Reaper.  I justify this because as far as I know there has been no other weapon that has been able to overcome a reaper in terms of just pure firepower. Sovereign was only killed because of the combined efforts of Shepard fighting the Saren/Sovereign husk, while Sovereign was also in the process of opening the Citadel Relay.

As I believe the weapon is in Batarian space, one could justify the Normandy being discovered by a patrol of Batarian ships that demand the Normandy surrender itself.  Before a firefight begins an Alliance force intervenes, Hackett leading the force claiming that this is an Alliance matter and that so long as Shepard turns
him/herself in the Batarians risk open war by attacking.

This situation could allow for the player’s first choice in the game.  The player would be given the choice
between willingly being taken in by the alliance and no bloodshed, or firing upon the Batarians and trying to make a break for it.  If the second object is taken the Alliance is forced to fire upon the Normandy crippling the ship before it can get away and threatening to destroy the ship and crew if Shepard does not surrender.

My thinking here is that it allows Shepard the chance to fight if they are not comfortable just giving themselves over for trail, but at the expense of looking guilty in the eyes of the Alliance and further angering the Batarians.  Also the damage to the Normandy would allow the game to show the strength of the Alliance, give an excuse for
any cosmetic changes the game wants for the Normandy without actually having to destroy the ship again.

We can then cut to Shepard in a cell aboard Arcturus Station.  The trial is about to begin, but before it goes underway Shepard has a visitor.  The visitor is the Human representative of the council.  I believe based on
information from the books and comics that it is now Udina in all continuities.  Udina informs Shepard that the council will not protect him/her, and if you still have it revokes your Specter status.  Udina also has shown dislike for Shepard’s behavior and would use the Batarian massacre as an excuse to limit his/her power.

The trial occurs on the station, and serves as a refresher for either the default or imported actions of the previous games, used as evidence of Shepard being unhinged and dangerous.  You can state your opinions of your actions, and allow for many renegade/paragon reactions. After you have said your piece, you’re taken to back to the cell.  Ending act 2 of the prologue

Obviously the third act would have to begin with the arrival of the reapers.  The station is in crisis
as the massive force emerges into the sector, and in the chaos someone opens Shepard’s door.  It could be the VS, or Liara, or even Hackett or Anderson. Either way Shepard has to fight through the station with this ally as
they make for a shuttle out of the station. I’ll admit I don’t know who the player would be fighting here, maybe
outraged Batarians, some mechs, or indoctrinated travellers the Reapers have encountered on their way to the station.

When the player completes the level and arrives at the shuttle, you get separated from your temporary party member and leave the station alone.  You try to guide your shuttle to the Mass Relay, allowing you to see the full scale of the attack as a swarm of Reapers overrun the station.  As it looks like you are not going to make it to the relay the Normandy pulls off a rescue and you leave Sol.  The prologue ends with Earth being invaded and the crew of Normandy commenting that they will need allies before they can come back.

I worry this reads too much like a bad fan fiction, but I think it allows everything the game’s intro needs It allows you to establish and defend your RP choices from the first two games, shows the reapers arriving in
force, put’s the earth in peril, and explains the Arrival DLC without requiring the player to have purchased it.

I’m very curious as to what everyone thinks about this theory and what they might hope for in the ME3 intro.
