I think I may have just found a plot hole in the DA2 ending sequence, since it appears to be pre-rendered. Back in DA:O, you can technically kill Leilana and Wynne during the Sacred Ashes line.

Has anyone imported their save file after killing Leilana (and Wynne) and seen the ending?

Not a bug or a plothole. A retcon. The writers decided they wanted to use her so now she wasn't all dead, she was only mostly dead.

Leliana survives no matter what due to..

- Feign death
- Being merely knocked out
- Clones
- Leliana is a title, like "the Sten" given to all reasonably attractive red haired female Orlesian bards
- Leliana is Flemeth
- Enchantment

Take your pick.

Hah hah... yeah that's old news. Surprised the hell out of me when I saw Leliana walking around like nothing happened. Oh well...

I'm pretty sure that Wynne is actually dead though. She doesn't show up in Awakenings if you killed her, but of course, that could be explained by her not wanting to face the Warden who slew her. She's probably not important enough to be retconed back to life but you never know.

Let this be a lesson: Don't invest too much in the choices you make. They can be undone at any time by the writers.

I wonder if they could pull a finishing move animation on her... resulting in headless leilana.

I'm actually surprised at how many people killed Leliana. Seems pointless and malicious to me.
I mean if you could sour the ashes and feed Eamon the tainted ashes to kill him, THAT I'd understand (I hate that hobo).

Andraste's ashes re-attached her head.

It's quite a disheartening lesson, at that.

Can you blame them? After a few sequels the ever expanding tree of choices would get very tedious to write.

Indeed, killing her is one of the few instanced I'd tell people they're playing the game wrong.

DA2 doesn't even keep track if you killed Wynne or not. There's even a line from Anders always saying two mages help end the Blight (unless the Warden was a mage). It doesn't matter if you killed Wynne in the tower.
