So I'm really late to the DA2 party and I've started the game, played for a while and have downloaded Legacy and MotA. I've started reading the forums and studying the builds and trying to get an idea of how to build my Hawke and companion characters. I've a few very general questions that I have not found a definitive answer so I thought I would ask here:

Many of the builds are created with NM difficulty. Is it okay to use these builds on Hard?

While there are specific companion builds, could you use the Hawke character builds instead, i.e. the Vanguard/Berserker with Fenris?

I'm playing on PC and have seen some posts on problems with patches 1.02/1.03 but haven't seen much whether patch 1.04 corrected these problems. An issue with Vengeance comes to mind. Is there any problem with 1.04 that affect these posted builds?

Looking forward to playing this new chapter!

Yep, nightmare builds will work on hard. The only consideration is that some of the tactics used to mitigate friendly fire will be unnecessary (feel free to use pretty much any party setup and drop firestorms/walking bombs on anything that moves) and that there will be a lesser emphasis on haste for end-game mage parties (since I don't think the haste bug has been fixed for lower difficulties and high magic resistance will reduce the effectiveness of haste).

Most of the hawke builds have a heavy focus on the specialisations trees that are only available to hawke (unless you feel like adding skill trees via console) and somewhat rely on hawke's greater access to ability/attribute points for optimisation. Companion builds also tend to centre around their specialisations but have a greater emphasis on supporting the party (setting up CCCs, threat management, buffing etc).

In regards to Fenris, his spec is more akin to a reaver (that lacks sacrificial frenzy) than berserker, and he is a little too fragile to be quite as effective as a reaver hawke. That said, setting him up with the vanguard tree and having dual haste running will work to make him quite powerful - so using ideas/tactics from hawke builds on companions does work to an extent.

I'm not too sure which issue with vengeance you are referring to. I also haven't really looked into the latest patch, but here's the patch notes if you want to read through them: http://social.biowar...age/da2-patches

QFT - I don't use force mage (I like only one specialisation for lore reasons), but I spec up Hawke's damage like nothing on earth. She and Anders are unstoppable together.
