This last name Amell seems to strike quite the resemblance.

Hawke is from the Amell family right? from the maternal side as we know from the name Gamlen Amell

So what about the warden if you start as a Human Magi?

We could have a definite plotline relating to the Magic in the Amell family as Leandra says in DA2.

Human mage warden is Hawke's cousin. Leandra talks about her/him if your save import is HMW.

i played Magi Origin, so he pretty much set the bar for cousin hawke, i can imagine the reunions....

Warden: so what have you done so far in your life cousin?

Hawke: Oh, I've become the champion viscount of kirkwall defeated a dragon a qunari arishok and an insane cult of mages and templars... what about you?

Warden: I saved ferelden from the blight, killed flemeth, killed a dragon, slew the hero of riverdane (loghain), the archdemon, became warden commander, arl of amaranthine... killed brood mother.. and I cant remember what else... oh! I found the sacred ashes...and one of my bestfriends is a Bloodmage (jowan)

I don't know who Revka is. My warden was a Keeper*, not a Circle mage.

Revka is the son of aristide amell or something... cousin of leandra. in the codex it said after the warden was born the amell family started it's downfall

Going by last name traditions, Revka is most likely the Warden's dad. It wouldn't make sense for Revka to be female, but have Amell be the Warden's surname. That's creepy.

Nay is just that bad assery is inscribed deeply in the family DNA...then it's Gamlen to compensate for so much win.

LOL. I play the game in a dubbed version and it's clearly stated that Revka Amell is female, because Leandra says that "they took all of her children away". If the translators didn't clarify this, it's probably a mistake then.

Revka is a female name. It's a variation on Rebecca. What is it impossible for children to have their mother's last name? Bryce even tells a female PC that he expects her to carry on the family name. Isn't Maric's mother the Theirin?

Probaly Revka wasn't married to the warden Amell's father.

My guess is that Revka wasn't married, or she was so much more important than whoever it was she did marry that he took her name. Not unknown among nobilty - as already noted, Marric's mother was the Theirin.

Also Bryce Cousland tells his daughter "You're my darling daughter, I love you, and I trust you completly to carry on the Cousland name if the worst should happen."  I'd find it hard to believe these nobles would let their daughters inherit if it meant they lost their last name.

May be Amell Warden's noble father didn't want to give his precious surname to a mage. Bastard.

the magi warden's grandpa, aristide, was apparantly considered to become the next viscount instead of dumar, which did not happen because revka's child was a mage.

Exactly this happened in my game. IMHO it really adds to the story...

I imagine whoever has the higher status in the relationship is the one whose name carries on. It would explain Marric keeping his mother's last name. Or perhaps that only applies to nobles. The other explanation is that the Amell warden is illegitimate, and thus keeps his/her mother's surname.

Correct me if im wrong but I don't think Leandra specifically says Revka is her blood cousin, she just says the Warden is Hawkes's cousin and was Revka's child which could just mean Revka married into the Amell line. The only thing I wonder though is why did the Warden ended up in the Ferelden tower and not in the Gallows

It wasn't a big issue in my case because I had made a backstory for my Warden which was pretty much Hawke's backstory (exept he goes to circle and daddy never stayed) so I had to do some retconning to avoid having the same thing happen to the same family at the same time twice X_X
