Okay the Anders, Aveline, Isabella combo worked well. I don't do deals with demons. As Irving says it never ends well, so Anders isn't an issue. No one turned in the Pride demon room and Isabella turned in the Desire Demon's room. Plus her line "I like big boats and I cannot lie..." was worth it to watch. It's a balanced group and works with any profession Hawke.

Glad to see it did. I'm not sure about it working with every Hawke, specially mage Hawke...but haven't tried it either.

Keep in mind to the most valuable part of the fade is the Friendship/Rivalry from the apologies. So that is a good way to better base who you bring. Just pay attention to the ranking.

Varric

Desire
Isabela
Aveline

Priority is top to bottom for who turns on their demon.


While you are in the fade don't forget some stat increases you can get in some side rooms. Fling book in the room you enter as an example. There are 2 other barrel puzzles.

All you lose is DPS (Isabella) You still have supportive mage/healer Anders and tank Aveline. Even if you aren't on a DPS geared PC its still doable, just may take a little more time as neither Aveline or Anders was set for a damage dealing role in my game. (I tested on Normal diff with a DPS warrior, and have no way to test it on any other combo and I suck at hard/nightmare levels). The only battle you have to fight one (wo)man down is Desire Demon if you do the Pride demon first.

Merill can last a bit if they've spec'd her with all the 25% damage reduction and the shielding. That on top of her stuff in her specialization. She isn't hard to me. But she can last a while for someone not prepared for it.

Did you spec her with CC's like Petrify, Horror or Sleep?

She was nearly maxed out on Primal spells, so yes, she had Petrify.

She's good. Lasted about 10 times longer than Anders (in the gallows courtyard endgame). She actually took down Varric in my playthrough.

Ah the joy of tactics and a 2h zerker/anders/merril/varric party.
She turned on me, as soon as i targetted her she got paralyzed by anders and even on nightmare was dead before it wore off.(it does help having cleave and zerker so i crit for 3-400 at that level

Fair enough I know Warrior and Rogue Hawke's nail it, it actually took me less time with a rogue Hawke than with the warrior one (also a ton more of resources in potions etc) but need to try it  with a mage type.

Aye, Merril is a Crystal Cannon kinda like Fenris at the start...
