I never understand why people dislike Oghren so much. He is awesome. I loved him both Origins and Awakening. Sure, he's a bit immature, but he offers great comic relief. Even more comic relief than Sten or Alistair combined.

Too bad he didn't get a cameo in the sequel, but at least he was mentioned...

Three cheers for favorite video game dwarf!

People just have no sense of humour that's all and need to lighten up I didn't mind Oghren thought his immaturity was funny.

I always liked his stereotypical dwarf character and jokes, but IMO it got a bit over the top in Awakening. I liked it more when he had a more serious side too in Origins.

And he evolved a lot more in Origins, especially if you max out his approval bar.

But yeah, his original act in Origins was a lot better than his caricature in Awakening.

That said, he was a decent companion in both entries.

I found Oghren to be annoying. Sure, sure, pitiable backstory, lost honor, insane ex-wife, etc. I'd be more sympathetic if he wasn't a walking cliche. Or if his voice wasn't so annoying, like he's drawing out every single word in drunken ecstasy. Considering I'm from Texas, it says something when I notice someone spending too much time drawling.

It's entirely possible that I am being irrational on this point, I just hate listening to Oghren. And I hate dealing with drunk people when I am myself sober.

Oghren's funny but too much of a stereotype. plus a lot of the hate for him seems to be a result of it being revealed that he was the returning 'favourite' in Awakenings and very few considered him their favourite, the disappointment caused some hatred for him

Possible spoilers about Oghren? Well, uh, anyway, fair warning!

I liked him a lot, even more so in awakening. I became very close friends with him both times and in awakening when he opened up to my character I found it to be so incredibly intense.

He isn't immature in my opinion, he has became the man he is because of the immense trama he has faced in his life and this is how he copes with it. Can you not imagine what it is like? He didn't just lose Branka, but everyone in his family. Mother, father, brothers, sisters, cousins... but not just his immediate family, his entire house died in Branka's expedition into the deep roads and he feels resonponsible because he wasn't a great enough warrior to protect them.

None of the other companions, or even any of the possible chocies for warden, have faced anything anywhere near to the kind of loss Oghren has faced. And he still manages to get out of bed every morning and kick some darkspawn ass.

I do have a sense of humour. My humour has just progressed since I was 16, is all.

I mean, Origins Oghren was really alright. I quite liked him. Awakening though? They just went way over the top.. constantly.

So yeah, cheer for Origin Oghren. Stab Awakenings Oghren though. >.>

I find Awakening Oghren to be really, really sad for the most part. He fell off the wagon, is running from Felsi and his kid (not sure in which order those happened), and has a few moments of absolutely crystal-clear self-loathing. I wish there was some way besides *giving him gifts of booze* to get his approval up and dry him out a bit.

He's using his sense of humor as a survival and defense mechanism. Give him a break.

I do wish that I could actually comfort the guy, however...

In Awakening if you bring him to Kal Hirol and select an anvil, you get a pretty emotional conversation, especially with an imported warden, about Branka.

I love Oghren. I guess I must be 12 years old, because when he got in that conversation with Leliana over intestinal gas and she starts choking and gasping for air, I cracked up. XD

He's way too sterotypical, whcih is surprising as Orgins did a good job in my opinon of making many orginal characters.

And while Zevran's sleezyness can be alluring, his is just disgusting.

I always assumed the reason he was so over-the-top in Awakening was because he was drinking a lot more now that he had a kid.

Signed! :D

Anyway, I completely get Oghren, and he really is funny. But the problem is that he's too one-dimensional. I don't mean that he should stop being vulgar and drunk, but sooner or later there ought to be something in addition to that. Hitting on virtually every female being, belching, farting, and being drunk is fun for some time, but it gets old if there's nothing to offer at least a little bit of variety.
